A chapter in the book The Kyrielle

Creation Sings the Melody

Write a Kyrielle Poem. Contest Winner

When sonorous, pulsating waves
like drumbeats born upon the sea
come crashing to their rocky graves,
creation sings the melody.

When bobolink and meadowlark
trill merry tunes in jamboree
till joy takes hold and love lights spark,
creation sings the melody.

When winds of autumn blast and blow
till trees' last leaves have been set free
to find their final rest below,
creation sings the melody.

When I'm inspired by life's sweet song
to lift my voice in harmony,
I know with each note sung along,
creation sings the melody.

Writing Prompt
Kyrielle is a form from the Middle Ages. It is a form written in quatrains (four line verses) and each quatrain contains a repeated line or phrase as a refrain. As is common in much French poetry, it has a meter, and this is usually composed of eight syllables per line. There is no limit to the number of stanzas that you use, but three is the generally accepted minimum. The rhyme scheme for a Kyrielle is a/a/b/B, c/c/b/B, d/d/b/B, with B being the repeated line. However, this can be varied according to preference, so you could have a/b/a/B, c/b/c/B, d/b/d/B, etc. See an example in the announcement.
