One drop of Emeraude she'd place at each ear's base with wifely skill -- I breathe it still. Crisp sticks of dough-wrapped cinnamon -- her rolling pin could magic make when she would bake. The bleach she scrubbed on kitchen floor, the tea she'd pour. Each cherished smell remembered well. |
