Proud parents dream -- what will be newborn's lot? Typhus claims what starvation had not. |

June 12, 2009, would have been Anne Frank's 80th birthday had she not died at age 15 in Bergen-Belsen weeks before the death camp was liberated near the end of WWII. 17,000 others died, including her sister, during the typhus epidemic that consigned them all to a mass grave. Approximately 140,000 Jews, like Anne's family, lived in the Netherlands at the start of the war. Over 100,000 of them were slaughtered.
