The naani originated in India. It is a 4 line poem containing 20-25 syllables. Naani means an expression of one and all and is usually about human affairs.
In 2007 the U.S. Department of Agriculture reported 36.2 million people in the U.S. lived in households labeled "food insecure," meaning their income was not adequate to buy sufficient food. With today's economic crisis, many food pantries and feeding programs report markedly increased need and fewer contributions. The daytime shelter where I serve breakfast as a volunteer recently was forced to lay off its two paid staff members, who continued to work as volunteers until emergency fund raising saved the day, at least for now.
