The Wolf's Story in Rhyming Quatrains

Red Riding Hood - the Truth

by adewpearl

That whippersnapper's spreading vicious lies.
Her "granny" story's nothing but a scam.
I did not cause her grandmother's demise.
I speak God's truth - an honest wolf I am!

She frolics through the forest in that hood,
a cape of red to hide her blackened heart.
Believe me, that girl's up to nothing good -
I only wish I'd known that from the start.

"Please help me, mister wolf," that bad seed pled,
"My basket's oh so heavy on my arm.
Could I impose this once to ask, instead,
that you deliver it?" ( She oozed with charm.)

And so I made her burden mine to bear
and took that wicker basket from her hand.
I should have known that I, without a care,
would soon be to my neck in sinking sand.

A twisted ankle next became her claim.
"Please go ahead without me to Gran's house.
I'll never make it there since I am lame,
and if I don't bring goodies, she will grouse."

That's how I came to find myself alone,
outside the home where "Granny" did reside.
So when I thought I heard the old broad moan,
I battered down the door and strode inside.

But was there some dear lady in her bed,
awaiting goodies, needing my rescue?
No way! There stood the hunter hired by Red,
who stole me blind and stabbed me through and through.

I tell my tale of sorrow from the grave,
in hopes my reputation to restore.
Remember me as generous and brave,
and not a granny killer, I implore.
