Phantasmagoria means a shifting series or succession of things seen or imagined as in a dream. It was another name for a magic lantern device that projected shifting images, popular in the 19th Century. It is also the title of a Lewis Carroll poem. Among others, Walt Disney was influenced by these magic lantern shows.
