a modern sonnet about surrendering control
Accepting the Light

to those, like me, you have a hard time doing this

Isaiah has promised that if we place our trust in the Lord to be our light, we'll never again have dark days to face, nor will we fear sunset or moonless night. "And your sun shall no more go down," my child, "Nor will your moon ever withdraw" from sight. You'll be with the universe reconciled, And your "days of mourning" sent into flight. Sometimes it's hard to believe what's foretold, to listen to what's been prophesied, to follow, not lead, surrender control - look to a light not our own as guide. God, in my heart make a special place where I can accept Your light and grace. |

Isaiah 60:19-20 reads: The sun shall be no more your light by day, nor for brightness shall the moon give light to you by night, but the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory. Your sun shall no more go down, nor your moon withdraw itself; for the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your days of mourning shall be ended.
I find these verses of Isaiah to be stunningly beautiful in their poetry. I also struggle to live my life in accordance with them as I am a person who fancies myself as independent and strong. To "give it up to God" is not easy for me. This is why I have chosen to write about it for the Faith Poetry Contest, as faith is not necessarily an easy thing.
When reading the second verse, please read the Biblical lines as if a preacher were emphasizing certain words -
And your SUN shall no MORE go DOWN, my child
Nor WILL your moon ever withdraw from sight.
