Another Halloween- Appropriate A-Z Animal.
The Jackal
by adewpearl
Aloof, agile all-night Anubis, anticipating attack. Bestial, cowardly carrion diner. Eventide eviscerater, entrails forager, following ghoul-like. Hunting indefatigably, inflicting injury - jugular juices. Kill. Lion's leftovers - marvelous meal. Maim. Nefarious nightstalking nightmare- Ogre. Pounce. Prey - quivering, quiet. Qualmless reconnoiterer, savor tasty tidbits. Unrelenting usurper. Victims wail. X-cruciation Yowl Yum Zap. |

Anubis, the ancient Egyptian god of the dead, was represented as a jackal-headed creature who conducted souls to the afterlife.
The jackal has a rather evil reputation because it is sometimes a scavenger, but it also is an accomplished hunter. Thus, some of these images are of its feeding off the leftovers of the mighty hunter lion while other images are of it as a nocturnal hunter, going in for the kill. Not a poem for the faint of heart, but another good installment for Halloween season.
