My Poetry, The Naked Truth!

by Mike K2

Free form... real free!
I don't mind giving
you glimpses of me exposed.
Through a poem that I
lovingly composed.

There are times I just let
it all hang out.
As a prosey rant that I find
something to which, I must shout.

Sometimes my poetry conjures
that free feeling of skinny dipping.
Once I even made my words warmer,
by talking about sweat as if it
was champaign for the sipping.

I also enjoy poking a
little humor your way.
It pleases me when you said,
that I made you laugh today.

It even helps me when I become
coy and frolic around.
I can tell my reviewers like it
too, as the compliments abound.

I am only too happy to share the
inspirations and techniques in my poetry.
Until you want to get personal and
try to find out if I do it in my nudity.

"Do you write you poetry
in the nude?"
How do you answer a question
so penetrating and crude?

I assured him that I write after
I come home from work and myself
and ideas are clothed and wrapped tightly.
He told me he didn't believe me,
got more excited and asked why that
thought would be unsightly.

"What about when it's late at night and
you write with inspirations engorged."
It never crossed my mind, whether
to write naked or not. Besides
what business is it of yours?

"You got together with your fellow
poets and friends. Surely you all
ended up naked in the end?"

It's funny all of my poet friends
are like me, the normal kind.
Coming up with the idea to write
in the nude didn't even cross my mind.

Poets write about freedoms, but
don't run around the fields wild and free.
Among us, wasn't even one acid
dropping beatnik or hippie.

I am glad that I didn't ask, because if
I posed that question after all;
I bet the only nakedness would be
my newly tanned hide on my favorite
cowgirl's wall.

I don't even recall mention of
those greats, the classical Greeks...

Time to walk away from you,
my weird-perverted geek!

I love to be appreciated and discuss
poetry with my fans.
Just don't let your ideas
get out of hand.

As you can plainly see,
typing about nude wouldn't
be very safe for me.

I apologize for the Kleenex box slippers. I had to use them because I was talking with my favorite FanStory sweetheart and mentioned that I write with the passion and impulsiveness of Howard Hughes. She laughingly responded, "Ha Ha, I can see you there with your Kleenex boxes for slippers." I just had to induldge that image.

The most interesting thing is that I have a bit of a local fan base brewing with poetry. I just garnered a little interest and for the most part it is a very nice thing. The ask me about the latest ideas and I find them encouraging. Then someone comes along and makes you wonder if you really want to be known more then you are. This poem was created with some of the real conversation, but more of some of the replies that I wanted to say, but didn't with the fear of encouraging this conversation.

When I speak of incorporating a "FM," element to poetry, I am talking of being yourself in delivery, a little offbeat base to illustrate the direction that you want to go and just make it so people can relaxingly identify with the poem. As opposed to how you feel a great poet should speak. Not, become an FM radio personality having to deal with fans that are weird and offbeat... Even scary at times.

I wrote this one for the poets to have a laugh at this awkward type of moment. After that guy, I would have put the pen down for a while, but another person who was a fan, pointed me out to her coworker and I use that time to develop a performance. What encourages me is that she stressed that when I perform, she has to know as she would love to see it.
