Glass Flute
by Mike K2
I carry around a glass
flute, eager to play a melody. I walked up to you today. You panicked and someone else not understanding clumsily dropped it. Would you see me at the Christmas party? You just stood aside, faceless and someone walked up and pulled it out of my hands, smashing it. Would you come to the crab feast? You smiled then balanced my flute on the fence, the slightest puff of air teetered it over. "Which side does it fall to?" It doesn't matter. Now you cringe and pretend I am not there. Did I do go too far or not far enough? Would you like to go a dinner with me? A million glittering pieces of shard-ed glass and emptiness. I carry around a glass flute, eager to play a melody. I walked up to you today. We both laughed and you took my flute and placed it on velveted wood upon the wall. I didn't even have to ask. Only thought to myself, "circumstance or happenstance?" One single piece of transparent melody; safely displayed for all to see. |
