Black History Month

The topic for this contest is: Black History Month.

February is Black History Month. African-Americans have an illustrious history in their ongoing struggle against oppression and the racism that still exists to this day. From the days of slavery, to the civil rights movement; from the breaking of the color barrier in American sports, to current socio-economic inequities, numerous African-American heroes have inspired many in their fight for equality. Write a story about one of these heroes. While stories about the well-known heroes are welcome, writers are encouraged to enlighten the reader by either writing about an obscure hero, or presenting a new perspective on a well-known hero.

Minimum length 700 words. Maximum Length 7,000 words. Recommended length 2,000 - 3,500 words.

The contest winner will win half of the prize pool which is based on the number of entries. The second and third place winners will each share the remaining prize pool. The prize pool is currently 25.00 member dollars. There are 13 spots still open. If all open spots are used the prize pool will be 90.00 member dollars. In this contest at least 2 submissions must be made for the vote to begin.
