Write the first 500 words of your book. I don't want a preface or an introduction. I want chapter one, page one.
DO NOT try and fit everything in to the first 500 words. Write your book as you would to entice your reader and when you get to word number 500 ... STOP.
If it is the middle of a sentence or halfway through a line of dialogue, that's fine. Don't alter what you are writing to have your piece end with a period. Just write until you reach 500 words.
You may choose any genre, fiction or non-fiction, self-help, how to plant tulips, whatever you wish.
Remember, the voters are going to vote for the book they want to CONTINUE. Which book makes them scream the loudest when they reach word number 500, "NO! You can't stop there, I must have more!"
Be careful with the word count. I'll allow a two word window either way to account for differences in counters. So, 498-502 will get you by the committee. 497 or 503 will get you DISQUALIFIED. So, use your fingers if you have to. Don't let all of that work go to waste.
The contest winner will win half of the prize pool of 90.00 member dollars. In this contest at least 2 submissions must be made for the vote to begin.
