Kit Parker: I miss my friend - the wonderful poet who is endeavoring to write her entire memoir in verse, hopefully you know of whom I speak but I'm afraid to mention her name here for fear that the local Gendarmes will descend upon me with the same force they've already displayed to her other sympathizers. Hell with it - I MISS MY BELOVED INDIE SKREET! Unfortunately, this is not a democratic website. It is, essentially, a commercial venue, created by one man whose vision of an on-line community in which both amateur and professional writers from all over the world can flourish and encourage each other is both remarkable and unique. I know I speak for many when I say I have learned a lot about many different â?? even hitherto unknown, forms of poetry thanks to this site. My work has benefited from a couple of very insightful, intelligent and encouraging reviews. In many ways, this site has been a God-send for me and Iâ??m sure that is the case for far more than just a few writers and poets out there. But, as my sainted mother used to say, â??For every plus thereâ??s a minus and for every great plus, thereâ??s a great minus.â?? This site is also one which ultimately he and he alone has final word over regarding who stays and who must go, regardless the reason. The truth is that's okay. This is his creation and we are essentially paying guests here. As is the case with any public commercial venue, it is up to management to make the final call as to who stays and who doesn't. If that venue manager chooses to employ tactics and make decisions that are contrary to what we as guests feel we can endure then it is our prerogative to speak out, to boycott or to simply step away. I am deliberating my own decision at this point â?? though, as I mentioned above, it may be made for me should Tom get wind of what Iâ??ve written here. I hope not. I hope he respects his paying guests enough to allow them to make their own decisions but â?? as I also stated above, it is his site, so we are essentially, all of us, playing by his rules. For now, all I know is a very vibrant, exciting voice has been stilled and this site is the worse for it. - PEACE - |

Also, telling the truth by reporting problems/problem members to the site is one thing. Posting multiple poems slagging off on other members is different, and I can see why that is not allowed. - | ||

Kit Parker: Just found out I tied for 5th place in the Monorhyme contest. I don't think I won anything but I sure am pleased my little piece did so well. I was especially gratified by the positive reviews it got. I've never heard of monorhyme poetry before so this was definately my first attempt. Color me happy and thanks to all the good people who took the time to write those reviews, especially the three who voted for me. - PEACE - |

Kit Parker: Just got back from writing class. My proff wants me to "push myself a bit harder." He likes the short story I handed in but now he wants it done from three minor characters points of view (think Rashamon). Hi-ho and it's off to work I go . . . |

Kit Parker: Thanks to everyone who reviewed my poem, "The Lover's Vow." It has officially reached "Recognized" status. I'm so pleased! |

Kit Parker: Wow, I just got my second vote as a top reviewer AND I now have two fans. Gifted writers all, so I am doubly - quaduply honored! Watch out world, pretty soon I'll be doing my Sally Fields impersonation . . . "You like me, you really really like me!" Ah yes, Sally, the approval of one's peers is both surprising and delightful. Thanks all. - PEACE - |

Kit Parker: I'm currently reading "How Fiction Works" by James Wood. I heartily recommend this to anyone who is interested in improving their own fiction by learning more about the art of writing fiction from the point of view of a consumate reader. It's great, you guys. Pick up a copy and tell me if you aren't impressed with the very first chapter, "Narrating." |
