VMac:

How do I find who won a contest? Is there a listing of winners somewhere?

July 7, 2015 at 12:10PM
shelley kaye: hold your mouse cursor thingy over "my" and click on "booths"
    July 7, 2015 at 12:56PM
michaelcahill: Also, "Contests" on your profile page if you were in it and you can click the Facebook link on the front page for site sponsored contest results.

VMac:

I won my case! Thanks to the site admins!

June 11, 2015 at 12:42PM
michaelcahill: Cool. They will step in and do the right thing. They've done it for me and others when the cause is just. Congrats!

I'm a little cheesed off. I wrote a piece that contained profanity and I got a review that said, "I hate profanity." If someone hates profanity, why read a piece that is clearly labelled as containing it? I'm just irked because this person clearly just went for my member dollars and didn't give any good feedback. I've appealed my case. But I'm still cheesed off! Right now, I could be working on that piece with constructive criticism that I received. Instead, I got, "I hate profanity." And it wasn't even spelled right!

June 8, 2015 at 3:30PM
mrsmajor: It's the member cents, and that's all it is to some...yes it can be very annoying...
    June 8, 2015 at 3:51PM
nor84: Happens to all of us, Mac. I once had a vampire say "damn!" when about to be staked. Got the same sort of review. Consider the source. If you posted a warning about profanity, the reviewer should have bypassed the posting.

VMac:

Does anyone know how to access the list of rankings for authors on the website? I can no longer find that information. I can find MY ranking on my profile, but not the list.

December 18, 2014 at 11:09PM
nor84: I just saw it. It's on the home page, I believe.
    December 18, 2014 at 11:21PM
pipersfancy: It's also under the "read" button on your profile page. If you click/hover over the button, you'll see Up Next, Writing Up For Review, Stand Out Writing, and Ranked Authors.

It was kindly pointed out to me that my previous post was in violation of the rules. I apologize for the violation. I have deleted the post as well.

I hope to post some new writing in 2 weeks.

Write on!

Imogen JH: Yeh, but I gave you a review because of what you wrote, so don't feel too pitiful.

How long does it take to the Seal of Quality approval? I appleds 3 weeks ago

November 25, 2014 at 7:07PM
nor84: I applied 5 or 6 months ago. Just depends on how many are in the que. Evidently, there's a lot. Be sure you read and followed the requirements for whatever you posted.
    November 25, 2014 at 7:43PM
VMac: What a seal of quality earn you? Possible publishing deals?
    November 26, 2014 at 12:36AM
michaelcahill: It tells you that a panel of people in the know consider your work to be of professional quality. I believe it affords you the opportunity to offer your work for sale here at Fanstory. It is mainly an acknowledgment of quality.
    November 26, 2014 at 12:44AM
nor84: It earns you a yellow quill (I have two) and as Michael says, a group of people in the know tell you whether or not they believe the work is of publishable quality. If they think edits are needed, they tell you where the problems are. No, it doesn't bring you publishing deals. You have to submit to agents and publishers yourself. You can "sell" your work on Fanstory, but I've never done it. After all, the stories are in my portfolio to be read for free. Why would anyone pay me Fanstory dollars? The panel does give you a good critique, though. Better, in my opinion, than you'll get from a lot of reviewers.

Warning: I have my own horn out and I'm preparing to toot it. My story, Out of the Fog, was just recognized!

VMac:

I gave someone a 4-star review and they took deep umbrage. Four stars isn't bad, right? Or wrong?

November 22, 2014 at 10:49PM
nor84: Four stars is 'good'. It implies there's something minor wrong, and the writer should be told what needs to be fixed.

If the write defended his work, gave a revenge review, or in some other way attacked you, click on 'contact us' at the top of this screen and report the incident to site administration. It isn't tattling, it's what we're supposed to do.
    November 22, 2014 at 11:03PM
VMac: Thank you for your advice. I have followed it.
    November 22, 2014 at 11:28PM
Imogen JH: Welcome to Fanstory. The ear tickling capital of the internet.
I wish there was a box to tick that stated if people wanted serious advice or not.
    November 23, 2014 at 4:11AM
rosehill (Wendy): I add my welcome too. And some helpful - I hope - advice. I hopped over to your page and read a few of your reviews. I didn't see anything offensive or rude in them so I will offer just a bit of style advice. Make sure you can explain succinctly what is wrong if you are going to give four stars or less. It is best to point out exactly where or why a piece is out of rhythm rather than to just say the rhythm needs work. Examples are appreciated. There were times you did that and the responses were appreciative. You should brush up on poetic forms though. It is a bit frustrating to have a reviewer subtract stars for the wrong reason. In one poem you questioned the rhyme scheme on a free verse poem and you didn't seem familiar with an ABCb rhyme scheme which seemed to cause you to lower your review stars. So a little knowledge in and a little knowledge out will go a long way here. Now I'm going to go over and read some of your work. - Wendy
    November 23, 2014 at 6:33AM
William Walz: I read what I believe what was your review in question, and all the follow-up comments. I won't comment on the work reviewed, primarily because I have no interest in poetry. But I absolutely love what you said about you not being here to "blow sunshine up your backside." Sadly, that's exactly what most members fully expect when they post, quality notwithstanding. And that's to have sunshine blown up their backside. Surely the best comeback I have seen here.
    November 23, 2014 at 8:11AM
Imogen JH: I agree with William. Too much delusion on here by far. The best reviews are by people prepared to say it as it is, and the best progress is made by those prepared to accept it.
    November 23, 2014 at 8:22AM
VMac: I agree, Imogen. Thank you all for your replies. I will try to be more precise on my criticism and take your advice. And thanks, William, I was pretty proud of that comeback. I have taken the additional step of muting the person in question. I just don't think we should have anymore to do with one another.
    November 23, 2014 at 10:23AM
mrsmajor: Sometimes it's difficult for new writers to know who to believe...some say be prepared to accept reviews...how does a new writer know just who the best reviewing person happens to be...saying as it is, great when what is said is correct, and that's not always the case...I've been around long enough to have seen two different reviews for the same piece...I personally never make snide comments, even if the writer is clearly annoyed...it's not very professional, and is a turn off...

I posted the end of 'A Junkie Carol' tonight.

NaNoWriMo is kicking my behind.
Anyone else?

I have a poem that I'd like to post, but I'm afraid it's not entirely 'up to snuff.' Would you guys recommend sitting on it until I'm 100% ready for others to view it?

I've just kind of reached a point with it where I need input, you know?

October 27, 2014 at 1:12PM
michaelcahill: I usually post it to get the input. But it's an individual thing. I'd just as soon get the help. :)
    October 27, 2014 at 1:19PM
William Walz: Nah, go ahead and post. I hear snuff poetry is the coming thing. It's a killer.
    October 27, 2014 at 3:24PM
    VMac: Heh, Walz :)

Can anyone please tell me how to edit the description of my book?

October 24, 2014 at 6:15PM
michaelcahill: In portfolio when you find you listing for your book there is a long string of options starting with "edit this". Towards the end of the string is one entitled, "edit book". Click on that one and you will be able to edit the description.
    October 24, 2014 at 7:32PM

shelley kaye: welcome to the FanStory Addiction Forum. sit and get comfortable.... there are a lot of us....

    October 24, 2014 at 12:56PM
LovnPeace: VMac. I have been around here I think almost from their beginning. I no longer write for the end sunlight and haven't for a decade. I write because I need to. There are many reasons people are here. Welcome to you. It is for me a special place and also holds all my work. :)I hope it gives you what you need. Blessings. Barbara

From our own Sandra Leon-Gonzalez:

Introducing Life Through Poetry and Art. Enjoy poetry reflecting the highs and lows of life, but ultimately seeing the light in every situation.

Having experienced tough challenges and learning to bounce back from life’s inevitable setbacks, she desires to share hopefulness, even when it seems that all is lost.

These poems are about a life’s journey through self-evaluation, seeing oneself in a positive space while asserting self-empowerment, growth and acceptance of the “new you”. The author also points out that it is important to identify negative energy, deflect them in their path, and forge ahead to the best part of oneself while embracing the beauty of art and poetry.
