joeakeefe: I have been privileged to provide different forms of mentoring to persons of different ages over the years. In so many cases, the individual is almost paralyzed by "disappointment." Just the other day, an individual expressed disappointment in her work environment.

I thought that her view of disappointment as debilitating and energy depleting was in error. I suggested that she might think of disappointment in the following terms: "Disappointment is not the mother of the twins Despair and Distress; rather I have found it to be the Father of Determination."
