I love to read, write and perform spoken word. I have traveled all over the world and every place has enriched my hunger to share various views and wisdom-I shall enjoy this journey with many others on this site...aka FREESTYLE

Who is FreeStyle? Writer-Spoken Word Artist/Performer. Born in St. Louis Mo, she has always been recognized for her writing and performing skills. She wrote her first song at age 8 when she saw an ad in the back of an Ebony Magazine that was picked up by the Paramount Music Company called "Say Yes," thinking she would get in trouble with her family she never told them she had mailed it and received an answer. Her life changed rapidly when she was placed in a children's home at age 10. She escaped depression by performing and was recognized for unique talent again when the Alvin Ailey Dance Group came to the home and allowed the children to dance with them. She was singled out and asked to be allowed to dance with them but due to strict rules was not allowed to join. She continued to entertain the children and staff over the various years with her unique style and delivery. Joining the Army was a way to escape and the doorways continue to open for her. She was allowed to do a commercial for the Army in 1998 in Belgium that aired on the Armed Forces Network using Spoken Word with a tribute called "Selfless-Service." The impact was so strong that the post Sergeant Major staffed the work to the Sergeant Major of the Army to be reviewed for military history. While performing in Germany that same year she was seen by a Broadway Producer who told her she was an incredible talent and gave her every network agents information ABC, CBS, NBC and told her to do a demo tape but at the time she wanted to accomplish more in the military. She performed for the troops during the Iraq conflict in 2003 and CNN broadcast a small segment of the New Years Celebration in Kuwait City. In August 2005 she wrote and scripted a program for thousands of troops at Fort Hood, Texas showcasing her incredible talent, which touched the heart and mind of the first African American female Prisoner of War (Shoshana Johnson) who was the guest speaker for her event. The program was such a success that the President of the National's Women's Project in Oakland, California invited her to become a chair-person for their conference to perform and share her strategy on how to bring such interest in programs nation-wide. She has written themes and performed for the President of the American Cancer Society and was auditioned on the spot by Hip Hop Mogul Russell Simmons while he was visiting the military installation in August of 2005. She was told directly by Mr. Simmons that she was very talented and his own people told her how very rare that he auditions anyone in this manner and he was looking for Poets for future editions of DEF Poets on HBO. She briefly worked on a theatrical script for Mike Frazier's book Surviving the Storm. He had previously toured with Tyler Perry's Gospel Stage plays, I Know I've Been Changed,I Can Do Bad All By Myself, Diary of a Mad Black Woman, Madea's Family Reunion and he was the musical director for Tyler Perry's Meet The Browns. Her latest projects is an autobiography - A Tale of Two Sista's and the Angel's Baby to be released at a later date.
