findingmyroom: I encourage everyone to wander through the portfolios here on the site, especially now that so many contests are conducted "blind." Not all the great writing gets promoted, either; I have discovered so much talent just from randomly clicking...
    Broken Fingers: you are so right about the overlooked talent, I used to read stuff by one old guy who'd often be ignored as he put his couple of cents on. The stuff was erratic but sometimes hit genius. -

    findingmyroom: Broken, it seems the gems are truly hidden among the chaff. In some ways the whole emphasis on promotion here knocks much talent out of the spotlight. -
