I am a tattoo artist and a single mom. I just moved to Savannah six months ago from Florida with my mom and 13 yr old daughter. I am your typical tortured artist. I recently realized my love of poetry when one of the greatest poets of our current time, Dr. Taylor Alison Swift sang in her song The Manuscript, ‘but the story isn’t mine anymore.’ I always kind of snubbed poetry because it made me feel stupid and I couldn’t understand it. Doi thought it was boring and thought I just didn’t like it. I was always trying to figure out what the author was thinking or feeling when they wrote it. And then…

In a flash it struck me,
that poetry is a plea for me
to honestly journey,
hopefully, openly,
literally and metaphorically
through the writings
and soliloquies
until they become my history conjointly. Suddenly I was freed
to see poetry with perspicacity.
Meant for me the way it’s meant to be
