Sharon E. Mortz

I am the oldest of nine children and was born and raised in upstate New York. After I graduated from college in 1970, I drove across country with one of my roommates and we both ended up staying in San Francisco. I married, had two children, worked in the banking industry and divorced. I dragged my kids to New York to live a year when my mom was sick but returned to San Francisco when she died. I became a legal secretary which is a whole other story. I have always felt I was supposed to write and have done bits of writing over the years preserving family events. It was not until 2001 when my daughter, Jacqueline, died that I turned to writing to preserve her memory and to deal with my grief. I was published in grief ezines, enrolled in a writing program, and won an honorable mention in a writing contest. I gained real impetus to write when I was published in the March 2006 edition of FATE magazine -- a real tangible magazine. Since then I have sold several pieces and am progressing toward a full-time freelance career!
