An driving incident with no explanation

This brief story of how your daughter, a new and rather nervous driver, and you as front-seat passenger, escaped a likely collision is written clearly with enough key detail to bring readers along as though in the car with you.

Accidentally hitting the accelerator instead of the brake is not uncommon. as the same foot is normally used for both. Only a swerve could prevent an impact under the conditions you report.

Why to the right, instead of to the left for a normal pass, is the question.

Perhaps the driver of the stopped car would have opened the door to step out on that side, which could have been fatal had your car swerved left. Accordingly, the swerve through the yard on the right was the better course. In any case, the lack of harm done to the yard reinforces the notion that unseen angelic hands were involved, as no physical means can account for that event. That your daughter actually gained both confidence and recognition of the need for driver alertness were important benefits of that harmless scare.

Superb, and aptly illustrated.

I know what barely escaping a potentially fatal collision feels like, as reported in "Icy Blind Curve Encounter" here:

    Thank you so much for the review and excellent comments. I really appreciate this because, swerving right has never made sense to me, but the explanation you give to this incident does. The passenger was still in the car and probably unaware they were about to be hit. The car door might have opened and caused a crash.

    You are most welcome, Beth. If we consider God able to see the "big picture" (meaning more than we can see at a given moment), then He swerved the car in the best way. Exactly how He did it does not matter. What does matter is that He had plans for the future of all involved, so kept everyone unharmed. Though you have no way to know this, it is likely the other car's driver realized he or she also was spared in the strange event -- consequently altering his or her life path from then on in a positive way. The thoughts prompted in readers of your post are among the ever-widening ripples still emanating from that single splash. Our Lord is efficient as well as wise. -- Mike

Oh my goodness... and how anyone can doubt the presence of one greater than ourselves, I do not understand! :) ;) ;) Such a well-written offering for the contest - best of luck at the polls! ;)

Very nice story, simple words explaining the experience.
Those unseen hands are always around us, some of us feel, notice and experience it in a way you had.
Good luck for future writing.

Amazing story which, knowing God, is not impossible, but believable, because He is a God who not only loves us, but wants us to know that He is there for us and can act on our behalf.

I found two very small errors:

She was old enough to get her licence,
-->
She was old enough to get her license,

chose to take to take the car in that direction.
-->
chose to take the car in that direction.

Thank you for sharing this miraculous story! I do believe it was the hands of God, or of an angel He sent, on the steering wheel that day. You were just not meant to be killed or seriously injured in an accident because of your daughter's inexperience, and I think God demonstrated His love for you both in a spectacular way.
I wonder if the other drivers on the road noticed such strange driving behavior, and if they did, what they thought?

    Thank you for the review, your lovely comments and your help noticing an error. I look up the license and noticed it would be correct in Europe. Interesting. I often wondered what the other driver thought. That was the only otther witness.

    It's a great story! You know it's funny how I thought of you, as I was reading it, but when you changed your daughter's name, that threw me off from guessing.
    I looked back on your story and found another spag (I am too relentless, I guess!):

    r
    ?Why on earth would you turn through that yard?? I asked. (just delete the stray "r")

    I have really become so comfortable with your style of narration!

I really enjoyed reading about your experience while riding with your daughter. I'm glad neither one of you were hurt. The guidance of the car by unseen hands is very mysterious and unforgettable, I'd imagine. The incident demonstrates how God and His angels can intervene and protect us from danger. Thank you for sharing.

Dear Mystery Author,

What a cool story! This makes me think about the amazing 'God-moments' in my own life. I wish I had entered the contest - except I'd be facing great pieces like this one... Hmmm... Maybe it's better if I just write them and promote them without having the fear of losing!

Thanks - yours is my favorite entry so far!

Wow! What an amazing story! Did Karen get her license eventually? My youngest refused to get her license. She's 28 and still dependent on rides. Your story shows me that God will send His angels at the right time. Hope you do well in the contest!

    Thank you. Yes, she got it the following week. I guess she felt a little safer after that happened. It can be scary to began with but once you gain confidence, driving can be very relaxing. I hope your daughter doesn't wait too long because I saw my sister-in-law and mother=in-law left with no one to drive them. They were stuck wishing they'd learned when they were still young.

Check out the spelling of license (shown as licence)
Anyway, I am not sure there were helping hands, but it also cannot be explained maybe the turn can be explained but no damage?
I thought the story was well written and done so that you left your reader without an argument to disagree with you.
