This is a sobering piece. I had to read it several times to take it all in. Your point about intentions and outcomes is striking. I wonder--although I still don't feel empathetic--if the gunman had had a life hoping for others to wrap their arms around him BEFORE he made his first shot.

This is a warm hearted and honest write and this shocked the community and was designed to divide, but the deed did the opposite, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

This becomes a strong cautionary tale. It is exceptional that unlike what is going on in the US, loved endured. This is a poignant testimony to the faith and commitment of the people of New Zealand.

Hello, anonymous,
I love the picture... it made me sad, though. I like the poem too. It's heartfelt and true. I didn't know about it. It seems like hate crime is on the rise around the world. Great entry for the 50 Word Story writing prompt contest. Good luck in the contest.

Is it me that is selectively blinkered, or is it the world that only expresses a limited beam? There is so much news going on out there that is not linked to Covid, as you show so clearly, and yet only Covid reaches my awareness. How and why?

This fifty-word flash fiction story, A Community of Kindness, has the proper word count and allows the world to see a people undefeated by those who plot and perform evil.

Yes, the Christchurch massacre in New Zealand was horrific and Jacinda Ardern acted decisively and a leader does in my view. She has faced some truly harrowing events and has done well with all.
Excellent entry into this contest and I wish you much luck in the booth.

Thanks for reviewing. Yes, Jacinda shows wonderful leadership qualities. If she loses the coming election I'll know something really wrong happened.

Let's hope he can't get lawyers to wrangle a new trial for him. You did a good job with your contest entry. You packed good information into your 50 words. The picture is poignant and a reminder of that horrific event.
Best wishes.
Thank you for sharing.

A very well-written fifty word story about justice for a killer who took fifty one lives but brought a community to stand together in hope and love.
