I can see why your story won the true story contest. Congratulations on a finely crafted portrait of both the withdrawn child and yourself, the understanding teacher. When we react to people's 'surface' we'll often miss their hidden depths... you were lucky to get a glimpse of Jeffrey's. I became quite emotionally immersed in your story, proof of great storytelling.

Anyone can teach anyone, age factor is unimportant; a student can also teach and change a teacher; a teacher has to acknowledge this; well said, well done; thanks for sharing this. ALCREATOR

This is one very complete story, regarding a boy (and his mother) who both were probably misinterpreted by past teachers. It seems you found the key to getting Jeffery's attention.

As the mother of three boys (now all grown men), what struck me the most was "he listened to the beat of his own drum." I was told that, constantly, by every teacher in grade school of son #3. He was cute, charming, smart but "didn't apply himself". He "marched to the beat of a different drummer" than his 2 older brothers, according to the teachers all three had in our small town. But he DID love to read. However, we all wondered if he would succeed in life, and succeed he did, now being a partner in an international financial planning company, and hugely successful.

Thank you for your wonderful story of what a dedicated teacher could do for a child, with a little interest and ingenuity.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful review and for the six lovely stars. I love your #3son?s story. Some people just need to progress at their own rate. One of my non readers is now CE O of a big company. According to his father, he still can?t read. Thanks again.

Mary,

There's no doubt why this story won the true story contest. Not only was it beautifully written, but it's also full of heart and filled with inspiration. The Beast can become a Prince. The world can be filled with rainbows (even in spite of riots and pandemics.)

It's a beautiful story and it should hold a perfect spot in your book. Congratulations and thanks for sharing!

This is a well written story that shows a caring teacher. I like that the one showing of excitemen from Jeffrey was about a book. He may change faster now that he showed this and get closer to his dreams.
Congrats on winning the contest. It was well deserved.
Keep writng and stay healthy.

This is an interesting story. I like the emphasis on how it came from teaching experience. I think you did a good job describing the little boy, Jeffrey. Sometimes creative children can be bored in an institution of any kind, all right. Very timely piece for this time of the year as school starts, too. Thanks for sharing, and congratulations on the win!
