Very interesting story. I didn't know that Bathea's hanging was the last public hanging here in the U.S. nor did I know 20,000 people attended such barbaric exhibitions. Overall, it was a good entry. However, I was confused with the connection between Bathea's hanging and Evan's and Allen's hangings in the U.K. other than they were the last of their kind.

I assume the narrative is fiction. Your descriptions and choice of words could be stronger. The fear factor was missing. You need to raise the hair on my neck. I didn't feel the narrator's fright. I would've worked the landlord's haunting experience in the cellar into the story to add to the fear and up the suspense. I don't know if this is possible based on the facts, but I would also use only Evan's and Allen's hangings since the story occurs in a London tavern

Good start. I'll look for more of your work.

Good luck. Good writing.

Your tale of the paranormal is very well written, showing how people's fascination with "dark spectacles" becomes entertainment. I was disgusted by the fact that 20,000 people flocked to see a public execution in 1936. Your story made me want to know the background, so thank you for letting me in to a previously unknown historic event. This article moved me deeply:

You had me immediately at this sentence: "I'm making this recording for The British Paranormal Society. " I', sure this will draw many adventurous reader in, believers & skeptics alike. This accpunt had the reader on the edge of their seat. They are invited to consider their experiences they've had. I hacve had many. I dowse so have been asked by spirits and by living humans to help the spirits to go toward the light. If you look at the haunted places in Vermont usa. You will see a place I worked called Brattleboro Retreat psych hospital. It is very old and the tunnels under it are very creepy. I also as a child played near 2 other haunted places. They were used in the 40's+ for a TB sanatorium and the other was a polio recovery place for kids in particular. I've been to them in the last 15 years....eeeek.

This is spooky! Reading all the events of public hangings. The tavern is haunted and the ghosts want to get even, I guess. This is interesting reading! Good luck with the contest~

A very interesting read, including information many are probably unaware. I would have liked it more if you'd started with the AP story, maybe just the first paragraph to grab our attention. Then go into the monologue, then finish again with the rest of the AP story. Still, I enjoyed it.

I found this to be interesting and well put together sort of like the type of internet article I might click on at 2:00 AM, assuming there weren't a bunch of advertisements attached to it. I went on a walking ghost tour in Charleston South Carolina. They did a good job setting the scene as your guys seemed to as well Midnight, strange room, lights go out.

Hello Friend,
It's a nice piece of War and History Non-Fiction having lucid as well as perfectly matching the theme phraseology, captivating flow throughout from the beginning to the end, and transparently depicting its theme.
Pictures enhance depth and beauty of the theme.
Interesting Indeed!
BEST OF LUCK in the contest.
