Wow! That was a very extensive description of the grandparent's home and the surrounding area! I felt like you transported me there too. The most amazing thing about this piece is how you engage all the senses, and avoid feeling words..It's all about percieving and absorbing the world - very much a young child's perspective. The piem ends with the advice that we should visit our 'happy place' instead of giving in to anxiety whenever possible.

I enjoyed the snipets from your childhood.
Thank you for sharing!

Hello BETHSHELBY,
I pray your day is going well. This is a lovely story down memory lane through your childhood. So many things you shared, I could relate to. You had wonderful memories of your grandpa and grandma. I agree, we should always take time to go back in time of our special memories. This was an enjoyable read. Great line, "He taught me how to call the birds--bobwhites and whippoorwill." We all can remember something good probably about our grandparents. Well-done. Happy writing:-)

Thank ;you so much for the review and comment Joyce. I'm so glad you could relate to this. So many kids don't have grandparents in thier lives and feel they have missed out.

I like how you describe the simple joys of your childhood and then give an important message at the end, anxiety is not worth it. Your poetic form is smooth and your vivid use of words carries the reader along in your story. Nothing less than a six.

Thank you, BethShelby, for that little vacation. We didn't have a storm cellar (Texas cleche dirt cannot be shoveled) nor did I wear a pinafore, but the rest ... ah, the rest I remember. :)
Thank yu. Don't change a thing!
Blessings and best,
Deb

Thank you for taking us along this wonderful trek down memory lane. We cannot control the chaos that surrounds us today, but we can control what we choose to focus on. Now and then, we need to do some time traveling to maintain our positive outlook on life.

What a delightful read, by far the best I've read tonight. It deserved every one of those six stars. It was a little long but every verse too me back to my own youth. I really love this poem

This is a very clever, creative and profound poem. The picture accompanying this poem is absolutely adorable and makes for a beautiful presentation. The rhyming is excellent and the syllable count is very consistent. Best of luck in the contest. Have a wonderful night.

A delightful perfectly rhymed trip down Memory Lane, which brought tears to my eyes as it reminded me of my own childhood. I loved climbing trees - your picture brought back memories.

I like sharing your trip with us, replete with delightful memories of things that stay in your mind forever.

Thank you so much for the journey! It was memorable.

What a wonderful list. Life gets so much harder once we're out of childhood. We forget to notice the little things that gave such joy without any cost! Excellent advice in the last two lines. I'll think of that tonight and maybe it will help me get to sleep before three in the morning!
