This hit too close to home for me because my mother was known to drag us out of bed if she found a dish dirty or not dried all the way. I don't think she would have let us even question her. Some reviews said a mother wouldn't swear at her child, I'm glad they had a good mother. For 75 words, I loved it.

This is a cute flash fiction story and one that sounds like it actually could have happened. I used to wonder what the H. stood for as a child, but never asked because I knew I'd get the same answer I got when I asked "What's a virgin" and "what's a womb" in regard to the Hail Mary. Or why we had to go to church to celebrate Jesus's circumcision. Well, the answer was always "Shut up." Wonder how Cinderboy's mother would have answered my questions?

Herbert, huh? I heard it was Hiram. Cute little seventy-five word story. I like the subtle reference to Cinderella--took me a beat or two before it slid home. Good writin'. Luck with the contest.

Mother's are never wrong even if he is washing the dishes before putting them in the new dishwasher. The boy will always remember this event.

I don't really get the story. Why does he express wonder? Why is she so mad? There is a lot of this that leaves questions. It doesn't feel like a cohesive story to me.

You realize 75 words doesn?t allow for fully explaining everything, right? Thanks for the four stars.
-
Of course not. You have to use the words wisely. Good luck with the contest.

Great accomplishment getting a story down to 75 words, and I like the voice! I think I missed the joke with Jesus's middle name being Herbert though!!

The stars don?t match the words you wrote in the review. Can you please tell me what was wrong? Was there a grammar error? Three stars is a very low rating for a great story with good voice.

I suppose I didn't find the character of the mom really convinced me, and perhaps this would take more time and more words for the story to build up, but seeing as you didn't have the luxury of more words that's understandable. To me this felt more like a piece of dialogue than a complete story

A vivacious and well-told story for the Flash fiction contest. It flows easily and put a big smile on my face. The mom is a bit brutal on the poor boy, isn't she? (lol). I understand why many kids are afraid of their parents. I was not very clear on what the H. stands for in Jesus H. Christ. Right after the boy asks that, she uses his first name, Herbert. Does it have something to do with it? (lol).
A killer picture and good artistic presentation. I wish you luck in the contest.

Hi Earl, this little story did make me laugh. I've always wondered what the H stood for. Well, now I know. Hehe. She is a little bit hard on the boy, all the same. Great entry and good luck. Ulla:))

You have to be at the top of your game to come up with an answer like that so quickly. But, thinks nothing of using God's name in vain with a child?
Doesn't fit.

So you gave me a four star because of the using the lords name in vain? Was it mechanically sound? Did it meet the criteria? Was there a language warning?
-
No, I gave you a four star because it didn't make sense that she would swear on the one hand and not on the other.
