There is a sense of foreboding and uncertainty in this verse, sort of like life around the world at the moment. The third stanza says quite a lot, our safe havens no longer offer the protection they used to. Walls of sanctuary now feel like prisons.
Best of luck in the contest with this insightful write.

Gosh you are so right about that -- and I'm REALLY getting tired of it (wink, wink)! ;) Thank you so much for your awesome review and those lovely stars, W.J. -- such a wonderful surprise this morning! ;) I apologize for being so far behind (gonna sell this crazy house soon hopefully cuz I'm damn tired of making it 'look wonderful and inviting' - lol!)... :) Take care! Wow! Sorry it took so long to get to this one. It's summer and the golf course calls:) You certainly put pen to paper on this one. "No promise of companionship is found in the light of dawn... Grand plans and schemes and lifelong dreams..." a great stanza. great poem good luck. Steve

My last six has been saved for this gem. This is simply outstanding, Yvette. I think this was written for those with the eyes to see and ears to hear.

{Our nation's landscape is quickly disappearing and we must hold fast in our convictions and with resolve in order to win it back. However, this not a battle easily won. My hope is in God and the good remaining. } My humble take on the last stanza. :
Sending you my best with six stars,
Sal xoxo

This twenty-line poem, Eclipse of Humanity, has the required lines and brings us down as we read that humanity is quickly becoming something less. Life and living become separate ideas as we move towards a future of survival with no reason to do so.

Thank you, Bill, for stopping in on this one, sir - your support is so appreciated! Here's wishing you a Magnificent Monday out there... I'll be back on schedule in another week or so....? LOL! ;) Yvette
P.S. Sorry, I'm soooooo far behind on everything as we are trying to 'downsize' over here. Just about finished going through the whole house and deciding what to donate and what to put in storage so that the house 'presents' as attractive and roomy - lol! Now I'm slogging (REALLY slow going - ugh!) through room by room and cleaning from floor to ceiling and in-between... forgot how much I HATE moving because you get the house the way you would like it to 'look' and then sell it! :) :)

Thank you for your beautiful poem! I am new to poetry and to FanStory, and I am always impressed with poems such as yours. You use the words so beautifully, they tickle my imagination and they rhyme well. Thank you for writing this and for inspiring me. Also, that you are a math teacher is awesome, because I have a engineering and computer science background, tapping into writing (fiction, poetry) more now, and you motivate me.

Let me take a moment and say 'Welcome, my lady'!! ;) :) So good of your to drop by today - be sure to stop by any time!! ;) :) And thanx so much for stopping in on this REALLY short one, sixftlion (there's got to be a story there, yeah?) -- only so much you can do within these ?essence? restrictions, I suppose... but the crazy blonde certainly gives it try... LOL! ;) Yvette

Yvette,
Your poem is very well written. Much polish and strong
word choice allows your poem to shine with
sophistication.
Strong balanced lines lend the reader clear imagery
of a dire situation the world finds itself in.
I would love to hear Rod Sterling recite this gem!
Best wishes in contest.
Blessings,
Richie

Oh, how cool would that be? That distinctive voice with just the right amount of 'mysterious' and 'suspicion' mixed in!! ;) :) Thanx so much for stopping in on the this REALLY short one, Richie -- those stars are such a wonderful surprise since I'm so far behind!! ;) There's only so much you can do within these ?essence? restrictions, I suppose... but the crazy blonde certainly gives it try... LOL! ;) You take good care of all of yours, sir, and enjoy the day! ;) Yvette

This is a very thought provoking piece. I want to say it was just a touch of sadness, but your words were so interesting it held me fascinating by the images. A wonderful piece of writing.

Sadness, perhaps... try a bit of aggravation and frustration... ;) :) Thanx for the review, Siberian Husky Dude who lives in a van by the river (sorry, couldn't resist -- that's just great!!!)... I pray it is not the eclipse of humanity. In the end I think we will be saved. Your poem makes one think even more than we already do about what is going on in the world today. It is well written and flows beautifully.

This is beautifully written! I may be the only one but my favorite line is, "now mock like shards of prison glass." It's so true. It gave me an unsettling feeling but I think you've represented - so very well - what our world is coming to. That's what I took from it, at least. I commend your work here and I thank you for sharing!

There's a sense in this poem that compassion and grace are very far away. The world seems dark and broken, out of tune, lonely and adrift. I liked that last line. If breath is but to be endured. It really speaks of the quality of life when life is but a struggle to keep living. There's no thought of pleasures, hope, or joy. Tough place we are in. estory
