This is a powerful image: " grinding heart-thumping,
leg cramping drill upon drill," Some readers will identify with this, some be be relieved those days have passed. There will be "wanna-be's" This is a great metaphor with vivid descriptions. You present a very valuable message. Imagine what the world would if there were only playful competition, not who can make the greatest weaponry threats. I am voting for this one.

This is definitely a message that needs to get out there in the world. It needs to be heard that we can grow with completion and make ourselves and the world a better place.

My first husband was and now my daughter is a coach so I fully understand all the sporting experiences and how they play out in your life to excel and do your best at whatever you do. I loved the analogy to the sun. Very creative. I agree with your conclusion.
Well done.
Blessings

Hello mystery writer.
The beginning of your free verse poem comparing the Majesty of the sun and the Stars is outstanding.
Your comments make it clear the Stars cannot compete with the sun.
I also like the fact but you continued expressing the ideas of what competition did for you, and not to you.
Competition makes everything better, including the competitors.

Good luck in the contest.

Robert

Sports teaches much of life in its practices and
games. I played all sports till the age of 60. Now I
am down to golf but I learn life skills from this sport.
Using the sun as a metaphor woks well in your poem.
All phases of life teaches if we own the right attitude.
Thank you for sharing.
Peace,

Thanks for sharing this very well written poem for the competition contest. I agree with the principles you have stated. Just wondering if this was instilled in you in a healthy way by your parents. Bill

This is often a challenge for many as when people don't feel successful they have low self esteem and it often leads to depression and self loathing, we sometimes expect too much of our selves and achieving contentment is key to living well, food for thought here, love Dolly x

Excellent use of literary devices to drive home your message that the most magnificent events in nature are not based on competition, but rather on personal achievement. Competition is fine, as long as the rivals can shake hands and still be friends after the match. Some folks can't achieve that most challenging part of competition.

Your driving cadence is perfectly matched with your motif.

Best of luck to you in the voting booth.

Gloria
