This is very well written, Carol. The solitude at night gives us a few moments to unwind, especially after cutting off a work shift. I always enjoy your urban poetry where you describe the power lines, traffic, etc. Great job. Marilyn

    Thank you Marilyn,
I don't care for the late shifts, but the few minutes outside feels good - everyone else asleep, so it's just me :))

I was delighted to see your name pop up on my screen, and I appreciated your sharing the night sky with us. I admired your appeal to our sense of sound, and I already felt I could hear you in this "imperfect world". Be safe and well- Joan

I've been trying to write more lately but it's hit and miss. I hope you and your husband are doing well!

My health issues have worsened with the anxiety of the times and allergies, but we try to walk every day for half an hour. Take good care of yourself- Joan

Oh no, I'm sorry to hear that. I have bad allergies, and I have been taking B complex vitamins for the stress/anxiety. Seems to help a bit! You take care too - glad to hear you are walking!

Thank you for your concern--I too take B vitamins plus many other supplements, but I don't notice the benefit. Continue to take good care of yourself and drink lots of water too. Smiles- Joan

I can so relate. I love the sound of crickets while looking at the stars. The chorus has gotten more quiet each year as the development around the area increases. The frogs are long gone, and I haven't heard and owl in years. I am happy the killdeer bird are back this year.

This is a wonderful poem. I wish I had a six for it. I haven't seen you in a while. I was so happy to see this come up.

I love to hear owls too, we have them around here and they seem to have adapted fairly well to suburban life - Great horned owls and barn owls. Thank you for reading :))

Sorry that you are in the middle of all this as an essential worker. Thanks for sharing that you're doing okay and taking time to breathe deep and put all the madness into perspective by connecting with nature and those "light-years distant suns."

I feel lucky to be working (I work for the National Weather Service, not in health care). I think I'd go crazy at home all this time :))

As always, you have a beautiful way with words, Lady Carol -- and just when I've had about enough of all this 'online education crud' and I've just walked away for the evening... look at you!! There you are with the perfect sojourn into the evening with just the right twinge of frustration!! Soooo, I know I'm not the 'you' in the poem, but I want to thank you anyway because i 'heard' you at just the right time! Thanx for the smile and the breath... and the reminder to step outside and walk away from it all for a few hours!! ;) :) Take care out there, my lady!! ;) Yvette

Hi Yvette - online education?? Oh no! I did some distance learning for my job today, good stuff but still painful. I'm glad my poem came at the right time, those moments outside away from it all are essential...

I loved the flow of your thoughts in this Free Verse Ode to the night sky. It provided subtle insights to the impact of the virus on you and the world without being over bearing. In fact, it was beautifully expressed.

Hi Dear,
It's been a while! I'm so glad you are writing again!
I only log in every now and then, but your name never showed up in my mailbox until now.

Such an amazing piece! It captures the breathtaking beauty of nature, mixed with city images and the uncertainty of our times. There's harmony and lack of harmony, gratitude, exhaustion and anxiety - however it ends with empowerment! I love it.

Are you still with your meteorologists job?
I hope you are doing well!

Love,
J

Hi Jyoti, yes I am still weather forecasting! But we are splitting shifts in the office and at home now, teleworking. Such strange times. I hope you and yours are well, so great to hear from you!!
    love,

And I think that's a lovely habit, Carol. A habit, I take it that produced this wonderful poem. Yes. I suppose most of us wonder what will come out of all this, when we are eventually through. Good to see you back. Stay safe. Ulla:)))

Carol this is a wonderful read. It's like being there, hearing all the sounds and seeing the dimmed starry night against the backdrop of humming from the bustle of mankind.

A fine free verse and most enjoyable read today. :)

Thank you Gloria, and sorry for the tardy reply. I know that sixes from you are a rare commodity, and they are much appreciated here! Funny how a quick scrawl seems to work out sometimes!

Through your amazing words, I felt humbled as I walked with you under the stars, those you could see, and felt at peace. Very nicely stated in this troubled time
