Made me smile and shake my head at the same time because although it's called humor fiction, it could also be called humor truth in the case of most humans. We all seem to have too much stuff, of various types...the stuff you liked when you bought it and hated after you got it home, inherited stuff, stuff belonging to kids and grandkids that they refuse to take home, stuff given to you as a special gift by people who had no idea what to get you and a whole bunch of other stuff you've yet to categorize. :)

Thanks for stopping by, Olivanne--glad you got a chuckle. Seems everybody can relate. I have no problem as to being ruthless with other people's clutter; alas, I don't practice what I preach. I wish I could take credit for that expression Rearranging the Deck Chairs on the Titanic--my friend said it and I thought it was clever--but he didn't originate it--Google makes that clear. Cheers. Wow, you've pretty much taken a page out of my diary. I'm still sorting, tossing and storing things I brought with me from the house I moved out of last year. Plastic tubs, garbage bags, boxes, even reusable grocery totes. I love the bit, "rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic." That's just what it feels like some days. Instead of working on it today, I sit here and read poems and stories and review them! It is so much more entertaining!

You are welcome. I'm glad for the information on the deck chairs. It is very funny, but I'll know the source when someone asks me.

Lol. Enjoyed your humor and I'm sure your home looks immaculate compared to mine. I'm working on "Re-arranging Deck Chairs on the Titanic" as that will be my method for when the potential buyers visit!

Lol... your piece made me chuckle as I always feel like I am decluttering. Every time I clear a space in the garage, I feel great, ready to clear the next space. When I go out the next time to clean, my husband has filled it already with more crap. Thanks for sharing all the fun ways to declutter.

Less than five years ago, I had to make a major move from my home to another state. This required me to Declutter many things. I am glad I did and now I'm so it seems beginning to collect new things and needed Declutter again. Have a blessed day Patricia.

The problem my wife is always after me to confront. Having spent a career in the military, decluttering usually happens with each move and we've had many. However, I do have my "stuff" and need to periodically sort it out. But your idea of putting it in storage bags and having it disappear on trash day is not bad. Out of sight, out of mind - you're not going to miss it anyway. I liked your piece. Very timely. Thanks for sharing it.

As usual, Liz, this is some funny and immanently useful advice when one needs a laugh ... Or useless, if one wants to get something done, LOL. Any hoo, I miss your charming humor. It's a gift.

Hi Liz,
thanks for sharing your wisdom with the masses here. I wish I'd known about this before we spent over ten grand moving our excess crap from one house to the next. Of course it wouldn't have mattered. I wanted to toss all manner of stuff, but Jan wanted to hang on to everything the kids had made since kindergarten. That was about seven totes of stuff at least, plus all manner of other sentimental hoo-haa that is still sitting on the shelves I had to build in the garage to accommodate it all. As if that wasn't enough, when her mom died, she couldn't bear to leave all manner of old furniture, dishes, knic-knacs and other assorted and sundry crap for an additional four grand plus to get it here from Wisconsin. Of course the kids don't want most of this stuff. I think I'm going to leave a note hidden with my will explaining that they could have had more money, but their mom thought they'd enjoy their third grade art projects more. I'll be dead, so I won't hear the bitching. Well done gal.
Have a blessed day.

Maybe this will speed up our decluttering!. For the past six months, I have been on a binge to get rid of stuff. It put him in a bit of depression, but he is finally working with me. He got rid of two bikes he had not ridden in 30 years but kept the helmet. (It may come in handy.) He still hates to toss anything away, and for all my efforts, the house still looks cluttered!
Great advice in a very funny and masterful piece.
Brilliant, as usual.
Best regards,
Mary

A red herring at the opening. I thought it was about a diet. Not so. I just cleaned my apartment this morning to get rid of pounds. LOL And I swear by Hefty bags not just for me, but for my cat's poop. Two days of scooping into a smell proof Hefty and it weighs at least eight pounds, I swear. A fun read as always, EE.
