Hi Rikki,
Again, bravo for an insightful "you are there" review to the characters, plot and dialogue. You are a treasure trove of info. Keep your camera-eye rolling to the next bit of celluloid . - Lobber

I like how your narrative makes me remember that classic movie. I've always been a sucker for a murder mystery treasure hunt with a smart leading character. I like how you envision an update in this piece. I haven't read the book but did see the movie the plot twists/turns/romance could use some updating as well.
Thanks for the walk down memory lane.

I am glad my scribble stirs a memory. I am rereading the book for my own pleasure. If the move was up dated i doubt it would sell without major changes.

Hey, look! I found, "Rikki's Film Reviews!" ;) Have you been doing these long? I have to admit, I've never seen the Maltese Falcon, and at my age, that's kind of a sin. I did notice that by halfway through reading this review, the voice in my head was reading in a Bogie-style lilt. ... "So, here's lookin' at you kid." ;) (I know, wrong movie, but I haven't seen Casablanca either!) Good job Rikki... I liked it! :)

I just started the reviews at a suggestion Casablanca could be on the horizon.

THE MALTESE FALCON has long been one of my favorite movies. Your review summarizes the confusing plot very well, but focuses little attention on the ACTING or the significance of the black bird. Bogart is superb as are all the actors who play the villains.

This was a trip down memory lane for me--as it was for you.
I enjoyed your economy of words and the richness of your info. If you would go a step further, I'd like to know how this film impacted your life--when you first saw it and today, fifty years later.
and may rejected. >> many?
Peace and joy in writing,
Aaron

Probably the first time I saw the film was on Friday night Late show, when there were only three networks went to local programming after the nightly news. It and The Big Sleep stirred my thirst for Film Noir

Ah, yes. I even remember the days when, on Sunday evening at 8 p.m., I'd hear a series of radio plays. Red Skelton, The Shadow, The Lone Ranger. My imagination fed on these narratives, and I am a writer today because of these remote beginnings.

Rikki, and you only 66? Married at 16? Correct me. . . .
-
I'm 73, the 66 came because there was already a Rikki when I joined Fan Story.

Loved your opener (you're poet, Rikki!) and loved "There are more lies and half-truths in the film runtime than in a political campaign." (should be part of the last paragraph methinks)
You've convinced me with your fabulous review. I'll request the film from the library!
Your content is definitely six-worthy. Please consider making the following suggested changes.
" A single shot echoing across " (echoed) unless it's poetry.
"who is smarter than me " (end the clause with a comma)
"Daschel Hammet's " (Dashiell Hammett's)
"blackbird." (black bird) It's a falcon not a blackbird.
"Enter Joel Cairo, Levantine, " (If it's one person's name you wouldn't need the comma)

Thank you for the great sixer and the review, For most of the movie and the book the falcon is referred to as the black bird, not the falcon. AH! Levantine a word new to you as it was to me. A historical reference to a person from the area Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Palestine
-
Oh, okay! Thanks. You probably want to add an article: "Enter Joel Cairo, a Levantine,"
-
I realize the article is needed but I just followed Mr. Hammet's lead..It was the kindest word he used to describe Joel Cairo.

This is an interesting and entertaining review, covering a lot of ground. Here are some errors I found:

"being 1941 the code was in effect" -- what does this mean? Or would a film buff understand it?
Based on this great review, I am definitely interested in seeing this movie! Thank you!
