I knew it! I knew the cabinet was magic! All sorts of interesting things going on in there. Opening to another world perhaps. A portal, a resource, an inventory, helpers, inventions. Lots of adventure there! The creatures seem to be excited about the cabinet and have respect for it.
It's interesting that the creatures needed a human to be in the mix for the cabinet to work for them ;)
Well done! I'm hooked.

Another excellent chapter. No errors that I saw. I definately think this will hold the attention of a pre-teen. This is the kind of stuff they thrive on.

But, of course, BLOTS, we still don't know what's in the drawer! LOL As the old song goes... "Anticipation... Anticipa-a-tion is makin' me wait..." I loved Carly Simon! LOL Okay... back to our Dickensian games! :)

Yvette,
Thanks for the notes about Ana. Had never heard of her before. This was a good chapter. Brought the team together. Gave them their common goal and again solidified Nicholas as the REAL groundskeeper.
On to Chap 6...can't wait,
Beth

Your ending reminds me of a line in 2001 A Space Oddesy, "MY God it's full of stars" () What will Nicholas's light be? () I knew of Dana and Danu this is my first with Ana. Whichever the name I am sure she will favor Nicholas and his endeavors. Since the setting is Ireland I am tempted to use a 'u' in favor and endeavor.

May or may not be Ireland... :) :) LOL! Oooooo... a Space Odyssey - I like that effect! ;) Such an awesome review, Rikki -- thanx for checking in on Nichoas and the gang! ;) Yvette

Well, Yvette, your garden is growing, great is this garden where stories are told, with magic swaying in the background, for Ana our mother smiles at her children. ;) :) I've read them all and I like them. Still I'm missing Margarita. :(

Thanx for keeping up with Nicholas and his adventures, Jose... hopefully things will stay 'even' so that I can keep up with the chapters each month - teaching is certainly 'unpredictable' sometimes! ;) :) That cabinet holds all sorts of possibilities.... :) :) Yvette

Nicholas had no idea what he was getting into when he accepted this job, did he? He is the "real" grounds keeper so he is expected to know exactly what to do, although no one has taught him anything. Looks like trial and error will get him there as long as he keeps his wits about him.
This is a great story. You have me hooked.

Hi Yvette. I finally got internet back after 5 days. It works great today but I am holding my breath. I haven't seen these characters for a while and had to recall the last encounter. Finding the "Chester drawers" (that's chest of drawers in NC. We make em here) :) My curiosity leads me to the light in the drawer. Z (*_*)

If the fountain of youth is in there, I'm not interested. I'm getting old as fast as I can. Z(*_*)

LOL! Naaaah, no fountains...think I'll stick to other 'weird things' for now! ;) :)

I'm walking into this mid way, but what I liked about it was the attention to detail in the descriptions of the surroundings, the placement of scene and the sharp delineation of characters in their voices that made the scene come alive. You brought out all those elements of suspense and intrigue that keep a good suspense story going. I think you ended it at an opportune moment to catch our interest in finding what is in the cabinet. And why it was so important to open. This seems pretty well geared to your target audience, although its not quite my cup of tea anymore. Tolkien is the gold standard of these fantasy pieces, I think. Good luck with it. estory

Thanx so much, E, for your awesome review and for stepping into this one midstream... always good to hear an 'outside' opinion! ;) And, yeah, there is but one Tolkien... this is by no means not meant to rival him or his works... :) Yvette
