This is a heartwarming story. From the beginning, you bring the story to life with descriptions of life in the country, as well as the descriptions of each cat's personality. I felt terrible for Peter, but it is sweet that Benny kept going out to find him.

Hello Natalie, it was a tough time for me on my own. I love any animal (except crocodiles and snakes) I often think of the brothers and wonder at what Ben did for Peter. Thanks for reading. Blessings, Kay.

This story held my intrest from beginning to end. I liked the way you differentiated the cats' personalities, and though the story is full of love, it didn't get sentimental.

Hello Emma, Thanks so much for reading. We don't get sentimental in the bush, it is a matter of survival of the fittest. Could have punched the vet's lights out though! Blessings, Kay.

That is a partly humorous and partly sad story about the cats and their adventures. It is a good example of how an animal will naturally try to take care of another animal when it can. Wish people would do that well.

Hello Bill, Yes, we could learn lessons from animals. I was so amazed, had to tell the story. Thanks for reading friend. Blessings, Kay.

That vet sounded callous. I'm sorry for your loss even though it might have been years ago. You did a great job, Aussie, with your contest entry. I enjoyed reading it although the loss of Peter. . Are you familiar with The Rainbow Bridge? Google it if not. It is great. Thanks for sharing and best wishes. Respectfully with Love and Admiration, Jan

May I suggest:
In first paragraph, 'tine roof with hardwood planking is an incomplete sentence. May add something like It had a time roof and hardwood planking.

This is beautifully written, deeply moving, and heart wrenching too. What a horrible vet to take off knowing he/she had run over an animal and not staying to find out what damage he/she had done. This is a wonderful entry for this contest and I sincerely wish you all the best too.

Hi Kace. I wouldn't give a dime for that vet who sped down the road and hit your cat, then had the nerve to leave the animal for you to find and care for. Your story is well written and tells of a harsh environment. Sometimes the kindest, best decision is to help the animal to Rainbow Bridge. Marilyn

Hi Marilyn, Thanks for reading and yes, she was more about money than the animals. It was a harsh environment, however I was there for a reason. I started an art group twenty-five years ago in that little town. It still flourishes today. Love, Kay XX

If I had a six left- I would have given it to you! This is such a sad story! And yet a beautiful one. The fact that Peter dragged himself home was heart wrenching. But his brother feeding him was amazing! You made the painful, but right decision. However, I would have punched the vet in the face...I hope you win the contest!

Hi June, It was heart-wrenching. I cried when he dragged himself indoors to me. He wouldn't have been a happy chappy as a cripple. Thanks for reading my friend. Love, Kay XX

This is about as aussie and familiar to me as a rusty ute with a blue heeler cattle dog in the passenger seat. As hard as the decision was to put him to sleep, I applaud your courage. He was a hunter, and his life would have been miserable living it the way the accident had left him . There is quality of life to be considered. So he'll be there when you too Go Home. That is my firm belief. Always has been, always will be. cheers all the best Cass
