I enjoyed the strength and resilience you portrayed in this verse. The bushfires have caused havoc in your country, but hopefully it will also show that Aussies are strong, resourceful and patient. Great job with this.

It certainly will require patience... so many are affected over such a vast area. It'll take years for the habitat to regenerate and for forests to be replanted... thus adding to the problem which helped begin the fires in the first place. Vicious circle.

I think this is a good 20 and the letter T writing prompt entry.
The short verse tells of people rallying against the wild fires in Australia.
Well done and I wish you luck with the contest.

A very well-written twenty syllable poem about caring human beings that are revealed in a crisis. The fires in Australia is definitely the worst devastating fired in many years. I hope you are still on safe ground.

You have made excellent use of the twenty syllables the prompt allows
to describe the pain and devastation caused by that raging fire--and the bravery and compassion of people.

My heart goes out to all of you suffering through these fires. I saw on TV today that we are helping. I hope you get relief soon. I worry about the animals as I've seen and read of their plight. The koalas, especially, are incapable of escaping. Well written and heartbreaking. Marilyn

I am overwhelmed with sadness for all the loss of life and homes these precious animals have enjoyed. It takes so long for habitats to recover from fire. I saw a picture the other day of a small kangaroo hugging his rescuer as if he really understood he'd been rescued. Heartbreaking! :( xoxo

It is overwhelmingly sad for the animals. Humans will eventually have help but when the fires end there will be no feed for miles for any animals that survive, no shelter for birds or from predators either, so some species will go extinct. Nature will regenerate, but it all takes time.

We have enough extinction already without disaster adding to it :( I heard it finally started raining though. Thank God. I?m sure help will come from many around the world to help with new shelters and food, just said for birds especially who are not so easy to capture and care for - still praying xoxo

This poem is a very touching tribute to what these brave and compassionate rescuers and firefighters are doing. Thank you for bringing it more closely to our attention and for sharing this beautiful poem.

Thanks for reviewing. I have been upset about people's loss, but somehow the plight of innocent animals makes me outright cry.

This is great, Lisa. The photograph of Patrick Boyle says so much. It is terrible how wildlife also suffers with the dreadful forest fires. What a fine tribute to the people who are helping to rescue the animals.

Even though your post wasn't about toes, it was even better! ;-)

Many thanks for entering the contest in honour of FanStory's 20th anniversary celebrations.

Great luck to you in the booth. :)

Thanks for reviewing Gloria. Twinkle toes seemed terribly trivial so I touched on topical terror and tangible troubles.

Very important poem you have beautifully penned.
I love ...the caring common ground...days so much! I thought it said warm common ground and I had to go back and read it! This is important. You should submit it to the paper or something. Its news. You have a tender-hearted way of expressing tribulation...as from the mind of someone who cares. There's so much about this to like...content, tone, color of bush country...
Great!!!!!

    What a wonderful review.
I care deeply. I have friends in the fires on the NSW south coast, and in Canberra (where I was born) they are suffering from the dense smoke pall. Aside from tragic consequences for people, towns and farms, as a conservationist and animal lover it is pure grief to see the devastation and loss in national parks and wildlife.
    Where do you live Tina?

This is terrible tragic. All the animals and the people being killed - to say nothing of displaced persons and the fires still rages. I do hope more states will send help to this poor country.

It's beyond belief, an utter tragedy for so much of Australia. I have friends in the midst of it.
