This is a lovely story, very believable and very relatable. I love all those videos where the parent comes back from active duty and surprises the child, and your story pushes all the same buttons. It's very emotional and very moving.

What a delightful Christmas story. We should all remember the children who are missing parents this holiday season. I'm glad that you gave Debbie her wish.
Thank you for sharing this one.

I like the way you painted a picture as you told the story it took to the place of the little girl and I felt her pain. Great post continue to push yourself to longer stories. To be continueğ???

Awe, what a lovely surprise for the little Debbie. Her father made it after all and dressed as Santa Claus. But there was no fooling her. Great little flash. Best of luck. All best. Ulla:)))

A lovely Christmas story, and I particularly love the gorgeous tree that drew me in. So glad Debbie got the best present of all. Best wishes to you and yours too,
cheers.

Ha, ha. This is a fun contest entry, and it starts out all sad -- the "twist" caught me unaware {smiles}.
Here's wishing you the best of luck when the contest is judged {smiles}.

An absolutely delightful and moving story. I loved it.
Just one small note for you to consider:
"But mommy, it won't be Christmas without daddy." She sniffled.
"I know dear, but daddy is a soldier, far away. He'll be home soon."
When it's a direct address, you capitalize the name. In other words, you would write "My mother was a wonderful person." But if you were speaking directly to her, it would be, "Mom, you are a wonderful person."
In this case if Debbie has said, "But Mommy, it won't be Christmas without my daddy." - the lower case would have been correct for daddy. But she calls him by her name for him which is Daddy.
So to correct this:
"But Mommy, it won't be Christmas without Daddy." She sniffled.
"I know dear, but Daddy is a soldier, far away. He'll be home soon."
I truly enjoyed this. Very moving.
All the very best,
Jan

Thank you. I did not know that about capitalization. I appreciate your help and will correct it. I am grateful for your suggestion.

Your writing moved my spirit and made me cry.
My Pa was in WWI, three brothers in WWII and
my husband in the Korean war> I relate quite well to the
tears at Christmas time. Thanks for sharing.

A blue Christmas tree for a blue Christmas. How happy for Debbie. How hard for all those families separated by war at Christmas (and other special days). Good feel- good story.
