Well told Christmas poem. It is unfortunate many people suffer Christmas in this way. Lonely but holding good memories of Christmas's past. I too would like to have had children. Thanks for sharing your rather sad poem. Blessings. ~Brenda

Wholeheartedly enjoyed this wonderful yet simple beautiful Christmas piece I too am the youngest of my large family and know what it feels like to lye down in bed and wait for the big man in a red suit, I remember keeping my mother up until three in the morning once and wondered why she looked shattered the next day little did I know then who was drinking the hot chocolate and eating the biscuits on the table.

This is a beautiful poem for the contest, It is hopeful, yet in the end it is sad that you were never to have had children of your own. May the Lord bless you at this season of the year.

This is a sad poem about a person who is alone and lonely on Christmas because all her family has died. It sounds like someone should visit her to remind her that Christmas is about love and not just memories no matter how good.
Keep writing
Happy Holidays

I found this poem to be solidly rhymed, and heart warming.
Pleasant Christmas memories, presenting sadness as well.
Best wishes with this worthy contest entry.

Nostalgia is kind in most of the stanzas here, until the last stanza, which I can relate to half-way, since one parent is still alive. Christmas is presented as being magical only when our family is there to share it. So this poem, although about Christmas, emphasizes the importance of family, perhaps reflecting back on a tiny family back in Bethlehem. Nice share, good luck in the contest!

Dry touching and sad yet you have such beautiful memories and you know you were loved. I believe it should be "we'd lie awake." Very well expressed. I wish you comfort and joy.

What memories you have. Your poem lilts and moves happily with those memories. We all knew at one point and pretended long after we knew that it was as they said. The beautiful picture infuses my memory. Well done.

I rarely give out sixes, but you definitely deserve one. This poem truly touched my heart - the kind I love to read and the kind I love to write. Your picture is gorgeous also. I am sorry you are alone now, but you lived a life worth living, and don't ever forget that. God bless you.

A very well-written heartfelt poem about thoughts on Christmas Eve and the fun we had with our siblings waiting for the moment we may open the gifts?
Typo
We knew it wad(was) Dad
NS The colour combination makes it hard to read. Try to darken either the background or the font colour.
