I always admire when people can cleverly write an Acrostic. It fascinates me how someone can write a sentence and have the letters land in just the right spot. It has to require some sort f strategy. It seems too left-brained an activity for me. I'm an imbalanced right-brainer. Not only does this make sense but it is interesting and informative. Well done.

You used the acrostic form well to tell a succinct story about this family name. But the name is missing an 'n' as I believe the last name of Toutssaint (All Saints) is Charbonneau. You'd have to add another 'n' line.

Hi there,
I believe you failed to read the Author?s Note after the poem:
1.
The letters 'eau' in the name Charboneau are pronounced as 'aw' in Cheboygan, Michigan where my Charboneau relatives reside. Toussaint 's name has been spelled variously by historians: Charbono, Shabono, Sharbono, Charboneau, Chaboneau, Charbonneau, Charbonet and Chabonau.
My family spells the historic name with only one letter N.
Thanks for reading the poem.

Ah, thanks for that information! The typical French spelling would have two 'n's. Very cool to have that tie to US History!

Oh, this is amazingly good! Poetically tells a story with great flow and rhymes. You did this with ease. I read your definitions/explanations of some of the words used. Very good education for me! I believe this to be such a strong contender in the contest.

A very well-written acrostic and introduction of the rare surname of Charboneau an interesting facts weaved into the story/poem.

That was a wonderful poem. Well thought out. Clearly written. Creative. Great author notes with a family connection as well as Lois & Clark too. I bet it's Land-O-Lakes butter on your Thanksgiving rolls. God bless you :)

Hi,
Thank you for your kind comments and your unintended (?) pun of :Lois and Clark: from Superman. I bet both explorers are chuckling in their afterglows. As too butter, probably not Land-O-Lakes (not available where I now live) but at least I can enjoy your golden six-pac. Cheers! - Lobber

A lovely acrostic poem and full of your French ancestry. I keep my family's ancestry and thus far my French line has been the easiest to trace. I admired this, and the personal significance for you. Your poem made history come alive, and much more meaningful to read. Beautifully penned, illustrated, and presented. :)
I wish you my best for the contest, Lobber.

Hi Lobber. Interesting that 'eau' is pronounced 'aw' in your area of Michigan. My last name is French-Canadian and people find it very hard to pronounce, but it's really easy. Spelled "Boire" it's pronounced Bwah in French or to rhyme with film noir in English. Most people massacre the name as Boyer and all variations thereof. I enjoyed reading your piece. Best of luck in the acrostic contest. Marilyn

Hello,
Sounds like we are soul
mates. I taught music and theatre at the university and high school levels. Also, I see that we?re competing in the Acrostic poem contest. My sister, who is 77 and a newbie poetess is overwhelmed with our positive reviews. Best of luck AND thank you for the six-pack. - Lobber

Hi,
Congrats on winning a prize in the Acrostic contest. - Lobber

Hi Lobber!!
Actually I didn't win anything in the Acrostic contest. There was a Thanksgiving Acrostic that did win, but it wasn't mine.

You did a good job with this acrostic. I remember seeing a documentary on Lewis and Clark and learned much more than was every taught in school. Great presentation - it pops off the screen. Hugs, Lou

What a very cool acrostic offering that truly has 'family ties'! ;) Great idea that you should have framed and saved as an 'heirloom' to be passed down to future generations! ;) Would even make a great offering for the local historical society... ;) Thanx for sharing! ;)

Hello,
Thank you for your excellent suggestions. I think I?ll now try to get a photo shop print out an enlarged copy of the entry which I plan to have framed and give to my sister for Xmas. She has heirs while I have none. Again, thank you. - Lobber
