Oh dear, what a dreadful fix they've landed themselves in. Two different stories, which one will Charles admit to? If he tells them he was in disguise, that would get him in more trouble! I have to go and see what happens next! Well done again! xx Sandra

Good chapter and plenty of intrigue and mystery. For some reason I missed this with rewards not that I need them as I am getting ready to pull pout of these paying memberships. No spags. Looking forward to reading the next one.

-This is an excellent chapter, Tony, that
really had us on the edge of our seat.
-Things weren't looking good for Charles
and Helen, but this went beyond that.
-It was unfortunate about the snow caving in
and making their presence known.
-But I think they were probably under surveillance, anyway!
-The description throughout is excellent.
-Poor Helen and her bad ankle, but it was interesting
when she spotted where she had played hockey.
-After this, it is one detail after another that
keeps our attention on the predicament at hand.
-First, Helen is taken away, and along with Charles,
we don't know where, or for what. Right now, I'd
say it was to intimidate Charles-they want information.
-Of course, Charles, being the nice bloke he is, volunteered
about knowing the reference to the Lion. That didn't help
his cause at all.
-It only gets worse; for every bit of information he gives,
the interrogator says, "I believe not!"
-The ending is only a tiny sample of what I hope doesn't come!
-Where is Jeanne when you need her?!!

Many thanks, Pam, for your detailed review and comments. Glad that the tension is remaining strong. I fear that things might get worse for these two before they get better, but with luck, they may get rescued! Delighted you thought the chapter worth a sixer!

Your writing paints the scene so well. I could picture how the police station looked and smelt. The anticipation felt by Charles, the tension keeps building.
As for Helen the reader can only imagine what may be happening to her, the only clue being Charles does see her again, hopefully alive!

I don't think this is a time for naivety, old chap. I think a Bond imitation might be in order. Of course, James wouldn't be in this situation.
Hussein appears to be well informed.
I think Charles is in need of rescue.

This is an excellent chapter. Are you sure you weren't in the secret service?
I think the RAF is just a cover. :)

Charles can be remarkably naive at times. Definitely not in the James Bond mould. Helen, however, has a bit more oomph with her Thai boxing expertise - a bit more like Pussy Galore.
I did spend a couple of years working in the plans and policies division of NATO, all very hush-hush but only pushing a desk.
Thanks for the luminous six to guide me through this tangled web of deceit.

Now theyre in for it - but no unexpected - the wheels of those countries grind in a filmy fog of intrigue and greed and suspicion. I even forget why in heck your characters have come there. but this is a good chapter.

Thanks for the extra star, Cindy, and for your comments. Helen would be particularly vulnerable, being a Kalasha. They are regarded as infidels by the Moslem community and have suffered extreme abuse over the years. There are only about 3000 of them left, and many have been forcibly converted to Islam.

Too bad I don't have a six for this. I thought this was great. The interrogation scene was top notch, very James Bond. I loved the counterpoint back and forth between Charles and the police chief. It all came across as very believable, as Charles and Helen avoided the police, were being driven by a terrorist, lost their papers, and got caught trying to get away from the wreck. It seems they have lots of explaining to do. I loved how you described the scene as Charles is taken from Helen and strapped down in this dark cell, the narrow slit of light at the bottom of the door. little details like that make the scene. There's plenty of tension, apprehension, and danger ahead in this plot twist. I look forward to your next post....estory
