I really enjoyed this tanka. Love the double meaning in the write. It's sprightly and spring-like. The pivot line is excellent, taking the visuals of the first section into the realm of light hearted commentary.
Artwork and author notes complement the write very nicely.
Good luck in the contest.

Thanks for your well-observed comments, Julia. I kept it to spring flowering, but I could equally have had a photo of a girl doing a handstand showing her knickers. Here in NZ there is actually a rhododendron variety called "Frilly Knickers".

I voted for this. The best in my opinion. "Frilly Knickers" is a great name. LOL
-
Then I'll like to think it was YOUR vote that put me into 2nd place by one vote ahead of 3rd. Thank you!
-
I'd like to think so too :-))

This tanka, An Early Bloomer, looks good and gives a zest for life to the first appearances of flora as the spring reopens the world.

Ahh, to be young again. The writing is as frisky as the bloom in the photograph. Unsentimental joyfulness and a whisper of the more sober days to come. Great Tanka entry... ...ec

think this is a good entry for the Write a Tanka contest.
Very nicely done with clear imagery and discription of the 'bloomers'.
Good luck to you with this one in the contest.

I really like your clever tanka. I'll bet you're a Brit. Using the humorous word 'knickers,' which Limeys seem to do once in a while, gave it away. (If only a coincidence spoken by an oldtimer with a good memory, I appreciate it, nevertheless.) 'Bloomer' was an inspired choice, too! It looks to me that you have an excellent shot at winning this race. Good luck!

Your tanka is skillfully-written and absolutely delightful. Your clever combination of poem and artwork paints two very different pictures for the reader.

Great entry for the Tanka contest! Very clever personification of these flowers as sassy showgirls flaunting their bloomers. Should do well in the contest.

Thanks, June. There is actually a variety of rhododendron in NZ called 'Frilly Knickers'. My mum used to tell me off for doing handstands and flashing my panties.

oh, I like the metaphor and pun! How a blooming flower is like a pair of bloomers. I looked at the picture and thought, she's right! They do look like a pretty pair of bloomers! Good luck with the contest.

A very well-written Tanka about and early bloomer that kickstarts the season of Spring wich reminds of a woman's underwear of the past, full of frills and color
