I find this story very informative yet I am glad that here in the States, we seem to have better choices on Gluten free. My husband has celiac and we have to eat gluten free products Some products are absolutely horrible. He calls them cardboard testing. Others frozen food like Amy's are gluten free taste good as well as gluten free pasta. I agree that some have too much sugar. My beef also to much salt.
Cheerios has a gluten free. He can eat oatmeal.
Many restaurants do have a gluten free menu now. Going to Chinese is off our menu for now.
I think in the States we have more choices.
Good luck in your search. I enjoyed reading your piece as you do not see to much writing on this subject.

Hi Mary, thanks for coming along. We have to thank the "Faddists" for creating more choice for we Gluten-Free folks. My wife does not like Gluten-Free she does not need to anyway. Her Dad is also Coeliac. Not sure if I said a goof friend of mine used to say "Gluten-Free....Taste Free" as his former wife was also Coeliac, but so glad things are improving.

Your post is informative in many ways. I believe others with the same issues will search their grocery shelves to find any of the products you mentioned. I enjoyed reading your post. In the States, companies do pay stores to place their products on certain levels of the shelves--exactly like you wrote they do in Australia. I hope you find some of those elusive meals and are able to stock up if you do.
Respectfully, Jan

Thanks Jan. It gets better in some ways, but harder in others as it is a continual search for what I like. I have friends that will get stuff for me from their area as I think I said even with in particular chains not all their stores carry what I need.

A nice and informative commentary on gluten free products. My motto is to start from scratch and not rely on packeted products. Cauliflower makes good flour I am told. However, I am not a fan of all types of brassicas.
I am a fruit and nut fan and most of my meals are fruit based.
Best to you,
Sylvia

Yes Sis, so true and as you will have seen worse when you have Celiac (Coeliac in Aussie) to get around seeing a lot of sugar in Gluten-Free. Appreciate your lovely review.

A very well-written story about dieting adventures and discovering of new products we never knew even existed. With aging we learn to be more careful of what we eat for various reasons.

I am Gluten-sensitive, especially when it comes to my thyroid, since I have Hashimoto's disease, and have been gluten-free for over ten years. I too am grateful for all the "extra choices" that have become available. Thanks for reinforcing the idea that oats are not gluten-free and contamination can be a problem during the manufacturing process. Like you, I don't drink or smoke and appreciated the reminder about reducing sugar consumption. Fortunately, we have a grocery store chain called Sprouts that focuses on healthy eating and reasonable prices. Best wishes- Joan

Hello Sankey
Even when I don't have to worry about Gluten food I still found your way of writing, it makes it pleasnt and easy to read.

A few years ago I had a student who suffered from Celiac's disease. It was very hard for him attending school with school lunches and parties. We did the best we could to meet his needs. Thank you for sharing your story.

Yeah a family friend of a Sis in law had to notify a restaurant in the bad old days weeks before an event to make sure they did Gluten free for him. Glad things have improved. Not leaving site just going FREE on Pinny2 ok.
