Being in that remote beautiful area was inspirational. I am so pleased I am able to impart some of that feeling to readers.

What an incredible hike it must have been! Thanks for taking us along with your powerful descriptions. This reminds me a bit of of Psalm 8, with your reference to feeling as though you've "come to know your place", that our insignificance has been made apparent to you in the presence of the vastness of God's creation. I love the lines "Alarmed, we quake before you, knowing our span is fragile." I believe there is no knowledge more important than that.

Apparently Psalm 8 inspired the hymn "How Great Thou Art" - very appropriate.
We spent 5 days surrounded by the most incredible wild and rugged scenery, and as I love being in wild places I was in 7th heaven.

Really loved this! Wonderful to come to a place of worship in God's beautiful creation. Your words are so lush with descriptions - I have trouble just picking out my favorite lines.
"and a tender fern's shy shiver
when the breeze bends a stem.
Snow sheens the brow of a ridge,"

Dear LisaMay, the imagery is vivid and creative, but what you have done best is to convey your feeling of awe. The wonderful works of man are to be admired but they shrink into insignificance in comparison with the natural world.

Thank you for including readers in your marvelous adventure.

Blessings Julia

Thanks so much for your positive review. Interesting that you mention the works of man - I am fine-tuning my next poem in this series that is specifically about that comparison.

Looking forward to reading. I only know New Zealand from LOR.

LOR is a good introduction to our dramatic scenery. Director Peter Jackson put it to good use.

I think you masterfully accomplished all you set out to do in this well penned piece. The imagery is stunning as you take the reader along with you on this quiet trek of rediscovery and reverence. Well done and thank you very much for sharing it.

It is humbling to see how connected we are to the grand web of life on this planet - and how small we are. With heightened senses we finally understand our part in it all. And then we just enjoy...

On this morning I hike in delight,
noticing dewdrops on cobwebs,
and a tender fern's shy shiver
when the breeze bends a stem.

Thanks for sharing.

When I am out in nature i am very aware of being a small part in the grand plan - I might feel insignificant, but when I realise how each part plays a role in biodiversity, I am reassured that I am important, too.

The Speaker takes us with her into this wondrous wilderness where "she comes to know her place." I really like how your camera focuses on the close-up ( ferns and dewdrops on spider webs) and the distant (the primeval forest). Easy to SEE why you loved this place. Rod

Thanks for your review, Rod. It was a memorable visit, providing much creative and spiritual nourishment... and rather too much exercise! I think I wore an inch off my height with all the hiking.

But you had a marvelous time and that?s what counts. Rod

Exactly. Even though I am still getting mud off my boots and out of my clothes!

You had quite an adventure exploring this beautiful spots. This poem also spells out the sights you enjoyed - many good lines in this one "fern's shy shiver", "riverside mist drifts...", "snow sheens..." Good job.

This is a really beautiful poem. It made me want to go visit some national parks, too! This is an inviting line: I am nestled in nature's clasp. Here is a super detail: tender fern's shy shiver/when the breeze bends a stem. This line reminded me of a visit to the California redwoods way back in October 2007: The primeval forest absorbs. Not sure what to improve on.

Thanks so much for your wonderful review... it's always interesting to see which lines resonate. I saw the redwoods in California several years ago myself. I love huge old trees - they have such power and majesty.

So awesome! Nature does offer a profound understanding of how we fit into the scheme of the earth. Even though God gave us charge, we really are but a speck in the glory of it all! love this! Virtual 6, (none left - boo hoo!)

Thanks for your review, Diana. I noticed that feeling insignificant in the scheme of things is also a chance to realise that we are important also, because everything is linked and plays its part. It is very reassuring.
