Aww, that was so cute! I'm glad the team mates and parents didn't moan, she scored! And that's what counts. Lol. That was priceless, Bill. This is another one that should have won! Well done. :)) Sandra xx

Inspired by my own children's soccer playing at three, and my grandkid's.

Clever idea for the flash fiction, and best of luck in the contest. I'll take your word that is 80 words. What a cute story! Emily is such a cutie, and at age four she's entitled to her mistakes. Unfortunately, if her family is like mine, she'll keep hearing about her mistake, like forever. judi

He he he, sometimes we score a home goal and these kids probably didn't even notice, such is their innocent outlook on life, if only we could retain such innocence in ourselves as we get older, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

Thanks, Dolly. Yes, they are simply happy to be playing and having their parents cheering.

Love the simplicity of this short, short story! Oh, and this last three end words. Classic! Very well done. My only critique: can't quite picture a ball 'buzzing' into the net! Good luck in the competition. Marion.

Perhaps it rocketed into the net, but I tried to avoid hyperbole. :)

What an adorable image of little kids. I know nothing about sports, Bill, but I'm guessing the little one kicked the goal into the oppositions net? That seems to be the gist of it. Marilyn

Yes. At four though, they?re happy to achieve that.

I agree. Such a cute age. Who cares where the ball goes, everyone is tickled they're in there playing.

Well, at that age, who cares? Certainly not the soccer players. They were just having fun. Hopefully the parents didn't go ballistic like some that I have read about. You did a good job with the contest prompt, Bill. Thanks for sharing and best wishes. Respectfully with Admiration. Jan

Hey Bill. That's a good story. It is a surprise but I liked the way both teams celebrated the scoring of the two goals. Good luck in the contest. Robert

Hi Bill. Oh my! Emily isn't going to make friends with her own team but good for you on the writing. This is well thought out. Simple but, with flair and a true story line and plot ... Good luck in your contest. This is a wonderful entry. xoxo Kiwi

Don't you just love watching little kids playing team games? I really enjoyed reading this and it is a great entry for the 80-word flash fiction contest. Good luck.

Lol. That's cute and it actually happens! Your story has pre-schoolers. It happened with my daughter's grade school basketball players where a gal got disoriented, I guess, and scored for the wrong team. Her team was not happy.

Thanks, lyenochka. Yes, this happened to Emily last week. At that level they really don?t worry about scoring as much as interest and learning the sport.
reply by lyenochka on 16-Sep-2019
Oh, so your story was true! In my daughter's case, the coach was too caught up on winning and turned my daughter off of team sports.
