That's true that horror books and films as a genre are quite popular. Psychologists say there is some connection between humor and horror but I don't see it. So I like how you ended your 1-6-1 with a question!

Thank you so much Helen, I don't think I see the connection either.

I would answer your question with, "they do" For me, life is scary enough so I don't need to get my adrenaline rush from scares. I do like suspense which I see as different. My suspense involves someone sneaking into an office to check for important papers when someone could come at any minute. I wonder if people would rather have contrived reasons for fear in lieu of their own life.

Oh wow! So true. People love to be frightened if they know that it's not for real. The suspense is what they're after, I think. Best of luck in the contest with this fun rhyming short poem. Marilyn

Hi Mystery Poet,
Yes, I'd have to say people love to scare themselves.... chainsaw massacres, the jaws of Great White sharks, ghosts for all those busters of ghosts, serial killers, etc. I'd say, when you have to peek under your bed before you hit the sack, you've successfully scared yourself silly.
You have the correct syllables and rhymes of 3 lines.
Good Luck in the contest!
cheers

Walking through an area such as the image you chose would be chilling I believe - esp. at night when fears come alive. You can see the glow of eyes through the forest leaves. Even as you retire for bed - in your own home, the fears come at you.
Good poem to point this out.

This is why horror stories and written and movies are made, for some reason we enjoy being frightened! We tempt those boundaries of fear for the thrill, I enjoyed your words here, love Dolly x

If a wild animal charges me, there is no way that it is 'Right?' But, you are darn right that I am frightened! LOL
Your selected artwork is a good match for your contest entry.
IMHO ... in my IPad view, the text lines should be centered. It appears with funny centering at the left side of the word box.

You know what caught my attention immediately? The PINK background! Clever you to throw me off track with that little ploy! (smile)---
I'm not a fan of itsy bitsy poems...but this is the second of four or five that HAS caught my fancy and made me stop and think. WHY is it we like to be frightened? Perhaps it's the perception of being in danger when somewhere in the back of our minds we're sure precautions have been taken and we are safe?
Me? I'm a coward through and through... The most daring ride at Six Flags is the Merry Go Round...and Lions --well thanks anyway, I'll watch a documentary...no safari for this girl!
Good job! You got m thinkin' now...

You have made excellent use of all eight of your syllables in this poetic statement identifying the need some people have to be scared almost senseless sometimes. I suppose that's why I watched "It" again last week!

Oooh, yes! How else do we explain horror stories and their popularity, or those idiots (in my mind, anyway) who go trekking off into implausible places. When does thrill become real fright?
