Hooray! No one was harmed in the gallery fire. This makes the whole spy entourage a bit more trustworthy. Sounds like Charles and Helen will make a good team. Was that Helen's speech at the end? I guess, Charles should have used a more gender-inclusive addressee than 'gentlemen.' Lol.

Thanks for your comments. Appreciated, as always. Yes, Helen was quick to pick Charles up on his gaffe!

Another well written chapter Tony, and an answer for Charles about the bombing. Interesting time for Charles and Helen. Good story, interesting and varied character in a good tale.

This is very well written prose, Tony. I missed the beginning of this novel, so can't comment too much, but it is clearly written and does build suspense. Hopefully, I'll get on to the plot soon~Debbie

Excellent narrative. The storyline is both compelling and intriguing. The characters are believable and appear well developed and multidimensional. You DC I'd an excellent job engaging your readers and giving the tale forward momentum. Good job!

I have read and reviewed a lot of your poetry in the past but I believe that this is the first of your prose. A very compelling chapter. I will have to go back and get caught up on the rest.

-This is an excellent chapter, Tony.
-It has a smooth progression as we learn the
reason for Charles's appearance at the embassy.
-I like his initial thoughts about being put in
"the darkest dungeons of the Bastille!"
-An interesting response by the military man
questioning the selection of Charles.
-He has a hard time getting
credit for what he does!
-What follows is good, too.
-You cleverly bring Gaston into
the picture with Bamforth giving
a knowing look toward Charles.
-A very good ending scene as
Charles realizes the truth- he certainly
won't let Helen go without him, either.
-I enjoyed this chapter.

Hello Tony,
You've created the scene and atmosphere of the subterranean world of subterfuge.
I was wondering about Gaston, the killing seem out of character
and didn't mesh with the rest of the novel. This should be a good surprise for many readers, and a relief, as Charles is no longer responsible for his death but a part of his escape from notice. (Gaston may wonder about that painting, though)
Now Helen is the only reason for Charles to go to Pakistan
other than perhaps serving his country.
Excellent chapter in all respects.
Robert

Thanks, Robert. I appreciate the extra star. As you will see in the next chapter, it doesn't take Gaston long to claim his painting. All the best, Tony

I was very much entertained by the poetic usage of words in collaborating in producing a wonderful chapter that dominated my interest from beginning to end. Are you going to self- published?

Very many thanks for your review, Tpa. I'll have a go at publishing via conventional channels but recognise that won't be easy. Self-publishing is a more likely option.

I'm hooked! Looking forward to reading more, as I love your attention to detail and descriptive writing that draws the reader into the story. It has the air of a military background along with the secretiveness of the intelligence community that adds to the intrigue.
