So true! We put a lot of effort toward the summer garden in spring and though we enjoy the fruit of our labors, enthusiasm wanes in the heat of August.

( Not being a gardener) I read here that August along with the changing season is not good for displaying your garden, and your achievements are somewhat lacking in appearance, a wonderful short poem, very well done****kahpot

The problem with seasonal change is that what looks great and sumptuous in June and July. begins to look not so great in late August, early and mid September. That is why regular harvesting is necessary.

The things that are green are lush, but behind that is the sad, seedy rotted roots.

This meets the contest requirements splendidly with a correct line and syllable count. I thought the imagery very well executed as I could feel either drought or early frost getting to the blooms. Good luck in the judging and thank you very much for sharing it.

Bill,

Very nice 5-7-5 presentation - my favorite genre.

I know September did not fit syllable-wise, but truly a vivid image in your posting. Illustration was an excellent match for your verse.

There's irony in this. We did gardens when I was a child, and never enjoyed the work. I can imagine people becoming worn out with all the work when August comes. Actually, August should be a time of rejoicing, reaping what you've sown. But then fall and winter are coming. Beautifully presented. judi

Unfortunately we tend to see our flowers slowly withering in the heat and deciding the summer is almost over and soon autumn takes a hold, a fine write Bill, love Dolly x

It's true! All that hard work, only to see all your plants and flowers start to wither. Still, its very much worth it when you see how beautiful it all it. And there's always next year! Thanks for sharing
