What a big question to open with! I like how this story is open to any religion, or no religion at all. I like the juxtaposition of truth and God, which simultaneously answers the question and opens many more questions. It isn't clear to me if the evening open school is a name or adjectives. If it is a name intentionally left uncapitalized, I think that brings an interesting point in juxtaposition with the capitalization of Logic and God, for example. Very nice and thought-provoking!

Nice job with your story. It reads well in flowing prose. It tells a great story of a father trying to answer to the best of his ability the numerous questions of his son about truth. Well done!

I like how you show us this philosophical discussion between father and son. It reminds me of what Pontius Pilate asked Jesus, "What is truth?" as if he didn't believe it could be defined. But Jesus already told His disciples:
"I AM the Way, the Truth, and the Life."

I enjoyed how you laid out the setting of your story just by the words 'a village open evening school' and by your chosen illustration.
I enjoyed how the story was dialog only, emphasizing the important questions Daniel had for his father, Samuel.
I liked the question and answer format of the dialog.
What made me happiest as a reader were the particular questions and how you made them flow throughout the story: such as, definition of truth, Truth as expressed through theology, philosophy, logic but with no clear definition of truth from God.

I must admit was waiting for Truth is subjective. I did agree with some things, but in the end, the story seemed to be talking in circles with the point being: I don't know.
{"I'm sorry, there is no definition of truth from God," Samuel said.
"Sorry, my dear son, I don't know, but I think, God knows," Samuel answered, unhappily.}
I think these two sentences are in conflict.

Given the season, I had to think about Pontius Pilate's question to Jesus, 'What is truth?" Certainly a puzzling question. Perhaps God is really the only one who can answer.

I really appreciate this conversation between Daniel and his father, Samuel. I think you wrote about a situation that could occur between any child and his/her parent. There are many things no one seems to be able to define such that the masses will accept it. I believe truth is likely near the top of the list. Thanks for sharing.
