The five stars are really for the line, "They plot and pray, day after day" because that seems to be such an essential description of religious jihadists, if you boil it down to its most active element. I was puzzled but pleased by the phrase "the market has stolen our purse." It seemed like an odd way to say that capitalism, perhaps, has taken away what is really valuable to us individually speaking.

It seems as if the services have shown greater diligence in stopping terrorist plots - by various ways. I certainly hope so. In many ways, this country has been naive - there simply are people in this world who hate us. We lived in Taiwan for two years (husband was army) and they did not like us there.
We're envied and hated - but the muslim god is extremely dangerous I believe.

Hi, I enjoyed reading about your thoughts in this poem. I believe going into Iraq was a huge error, but it's too late now. I also think we need to look inward to find out why these people hate us so much, and until we do that, we won't really 'get it'. People in third world countries can only take so much, and there has never been an empire that didn't fall. A lot from within and we are seeing that now in mho. America is in trouble morally and that's the most dangerous erosion of all. We are too busy spending and spending to think about others. And to look after the world's poor means we in first world countries need to think 'less', not 'more'. I would gladly pay a tax to build these countries infrastructure so they are not wanting to leave their homes in search of a better life. And so they become trading partners rather potential enemies. I believe multiculturalism doesn't work, we've had enough time to see this, but alas, 'common sense' is a most uncommon virtue.
I liked that your poem wasn't overworked and pedantic, but rather, heart felt and questioning. Simple is the essence of style. You can have too many poetic devices, just the same as you can be wearing too many accessories.

Hello, Jay. Your poem poses a very interesting question when all is said and done. I cannot help but think back to when our entire world changed the way it did. what with terrorism, Jihd and anything else with hatred attached to it in some way. I agree they do hail a very different God, one that breathes a Satan's breath, if one can believe his demise deserves many others, he must be found and his arrogance snuffed, I like this read and poem very much, it stirs, very well done****kahpot

Well, this is quite well done and you were correct in wondering if we should have gone into Iraq. I think we got a bit ahead of ourselves on that decision. Your poetry is not just poetic. It is informative, thought provoking, educational and informative. We can learn much from it.
