This meets the contest requirements brilliantly. Too bad the word count was limited as you have quite a few more species of fish to 'tackle'. Good luck in the voting and thank you very much for sharing it.

Yes, I could have carried on but suddenly the 100 was looming.
    Thanks for reviewing.

It certainly IS a fishy story, but I think you've carried it out successfully without losing any of them. Clever and interesting. Good luck in the contest. Marilyn

Thanks for reviewing this rather smelly offering. I hope that's not all what fishermen talk about.
    Cheers.

You are really, really good at this, you know. It's amazing that within a 100 word story, 22 words are fish names.
Between the title and your description, I had an idea where this was headed, and I was not in the least bit let down.
Cleverly fascinating, and a great contest entry!

Wow if that is how fisherman talk I'm left speechless.

I can see two men in the bar and I find the point of adding the different fish in the piece. I see the men as drunk and trying to be some kind of funny.

Is it one man telling a story or two men talking? I feel like it is a conversation but there are no (" ") so I can't tell what is words and what may be thought or action. And left me tumbling around unclear.

Thanks for your point of view, Mia.
It's how a certain 'orange roughy' spoke about women. (And that's why he'll probably go to hell.)
I hoped the heading 'Chatting with Ray and Marlin', and introducing their names in the story, would indicate there are 2 character in this exchange of dialogue. I took my cue for leaving out the speech marks from a prompt which had those instructions. I am sorry if it confused you, but you were probably distracted by the unsavoury content of what some men talk about, especially when alcohol is involved.

I was really hooked on this basstard. The tempura was great. It should be lit up in neon. A true piece of gold . . .fish are great. Nice damn flow, too!

I'm pleased you found this entertaining. I do not go fishing myself so I had to find out some fish names.

What a brilliant play on words! What fish I hadn't heard of, I could guess.
The story unfolded without the word play feeling forced. Good luck with the contest.

Thanks for reviewing the story. I had a bit of fun with this one, although I am not a fisherman myself.

I'd better not hazard a guess as to your identity, mystery writer, but I loved this. So many fishy names you've managed to include here. Good luck in the contest.

You'd be right about identity, methinks. Glad you liked it.
It occurred to me after I posted it with 5 minutes before deadline, that the committee might disqualify it for not being a story, just dialogue. Then I noticed that there was another contest that was JUST for dialogue. I probably should have put it in that contest instead. Darn.

I'm glad you missed the dialogue contest. I have one in that. (Just joking - about missing). Anyway, I guess you'll just have to write another. :) Get busy.

I'm stuck with having to do reviews to get some $$$ for entries and promotion.
reply by JudyE on 24-Jun-2019
I quite like doing reviews except on tiny little poems where I never know what to say. And sometimes they don't pay much either.

This was a very clever idea. I can't believe you were actually able to concoct an entire conversation. It actually made sense.
Thank you for sharing. Good luck in the contest.

I had to look up fish names because I am not a fisherman... then I picked out ones that sort of made sense and had a bit of fun.
    Thanks for reviewing.

I've been reading all the entries. Voting is going to be tough. The booth wasn't open the last I checked.

Those contests sure throw up some imaginative variety.
