Perfect, rhythmic flow to to this poem. Written perfect for the theme, as well. I'm no little boy, but I love a good hero! Especially, a cowboy with pistols! Well written. No grammatical issues. Best wishes!

Great poem and so true. The holding on to someone that they place way up there on a pedestal is so integral as they grow up dreaming of justice and the good guys. Later there is time to let go, but they need the heroes to help them fathom right from wrong along the way.

Not many to look up to today, sadly. Thanks for your review and five stars.

Congrats on your when. I liked the flow and rhyme scheme of your poem. I think heroes are something that are missing today. There are rarely people today who are like heroes of the past. Your poem gives the reader all the characteristics of a true cowboy hero. Good job.

Congrats on your win! This was most certainly the most endearing one of all! I grew up with of the old cowboy shows, none of which are topics of movies today too much! Those were surely our heroes! Xoxo

Nice job! The topic today is certainly important. Young men are choosing heroes that are quite odd, often sports figures or celebs that really are not good role models. Your poem is very well written, great choice of topic, great rhyme and rhythm with flow. The artwork is a fantastic choice.
Good job with this one!

Very nicely rhymed and metered poem about the vintage movie cowboys and even a literary reference to Zane Grey's westerns. It definitely does take a lot of energy and determination to herd cattle (or any livestock) all day. It seems as if we are indeed lacking people who stand for something and can work such long hours being portrayed regularly in the movies. I think I might add a question mark at the very end of the poem after "Wayne" instead of a period, and that is all I could find to improve on.

I appreciate your comments and review Crystie, thanks for the five stars. I've been on three cattle drives while living in Montana. They were hard work, but I loved it.

Very well done, Willie and congratulations on winning the contest! I remember John Wayne and some of the older cowboys you mentioned.
Your abcb rhyme scheme doesn't miss a beat with all true rhymes.

Best wishes , Rodger

Congratulations on your win, Willie. I enjoyed reading this. Your lines read well with a great story to tell. I agree with your conclusion. also, there will never be those kind of heroes that were popular and looked up then. Today it is me, me, me no matter what. Thanks for sharing. Jan

Congratulations on your win. I don't know how to make cowboys heros again. I tried with Jerry Jing-Jang. He was popular here on FS but other than that nobody was interested.

Great work, and congratulations on your contest win. I admire that sketch of John Wayne. Heroes of the kind we saw in the western movies are sorely lacking today. Now the younger generation has no one to look up to. (Certainly not in sports, as the players are mostly known for their bad deeds now.) You did a fine job with your references and the rhyme and flow in this. It reminds me of the Statler Brothers' song, "Whatever Happened to Randolph Scott?" They go through a list of cowboy heroes and end with "Whatever happened to all of these/Has happened to the best of me." You are on the same wave length. I loved the western movies when I was a child, with Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, and John Wayne being among my favorites. judi
