I love the artwork you choose to go with your poem, they are a perfect match
You captured my attention from the first line to the last.
The duke was m,y hero even though I'm a lady... be raise with no brothers or a dad the Duke was the next best thing I thought if he was my dad.
There are hero's around but not like those kings.

You certainly are good at these cowboy poems. Well done on your win in the contest!
In this line: 'A cowboy with "pearl handled" pistols,
That rides a very fast steed.'... I think 'that' should be 'who'.

I agree, "who" sounds much better, thanks.

Congratulations! This is a wonderful poem about having a genuine hero to look up to as a role model. Back in the day, men were supposed to be men...strong and effective at helping family and friends live a good life. Nowadays, it seems like all the men in TV commercials are wimps. John Wayne, we sure miss you!

Violence and sex seems to be the deal today. John Wayne has always been tops for me. Did you know he was nicknamed "Duke" after the dog he had when he was young, named "Duke."

    No, I didn't know that! :-)

I am sure there are many heroes they can look up to even in today's chaotic world. The rhyme and meter are consistent and the content a good mix of nostalgia and current relevance. Nicely done and thank you very much for sharing it.

This is so true. There are not a whole lot of people for little boys to look up to in this day and age. We need more men that are willing to stand tall and be a good example for little men to grow into.

Too bad we don't have the movie heroes of old. Today everything seems to be sex and violence. Thank you for your very nice review and stars.

Congrats on being a winner in this contest. And I like the poem. When he was a kid, my husband was given twenty-five cents or so - and sent to the movies all day. He was there most of the day - enjoying these heroes.
I wonder if young boys still have cowboys as their heroes.

I doubt if many of the boys today even know what a cowboy is, They might know if you put a hat and boots on Sponge Bob. I'm afraid western movies are all but gone, Sad!

This is very well-written and appealing. You have made excellent use of
specific details--names and character descriptions--to pay tribute to a time gone by.

A very well-written cowboy poem. All little boys need to have a manly hero in their lives to teach them how to be strong and gentle at the same time.

Congratulations on winning the contest.

So many boys grow up without a father. The father should be the first and last hero. All the others are sub heroes. Thanks for your review and five stars.
