It's always so sad with a pet (fur baby) dies. They ARE family members. If your pet isn't part of your family, then you shouldn't be a pet owner. I am so sorry to hear of Tabatha's loss.

Hi Dawn, your Prissy is priceless, but I think she's just been taught a little lesson. She suddenly seems more humble the sweet thing. Unfortunately Urinary tract decease is the bane of cats. I've had 3 cats dying from it.Two males and one female. There's no cure, only prevention. All best Ulla:)))

Poor Grumpy, how sad for her and her family. By the sound of it, you did a good job with getting Miss Prissy the treatment she needed, and were spared the major expense of an operation. I'm so pleased she responded well to a change of diet.

Our poor Bella has had so much to endure it would last a handful of dogs a lifetime, yet in spite of all her troubles, she is the happiest dog I've ever known. I wish I was more like her.

Love the interaction, and I agree with Miss Prissy's assessment.

Well done,
Craig

Yes, it is so sad about Grumpy cat, and since I wrote this I have had several people say that they have lost their cats to the same thing.

In fact, though, the path I took with Prissy wasn't less expensive. It was (is) actually more costly because there were more tests that had to be done, the urinary infection cleared up, and the specialty food is a more expensive food. I was told she come off of it shortly after the stones dissolved, but I decided I will keep her on a urinary food for her lifetime anyway. It's a small price to pay for the joy she gives me, and the safest way to ensure the stones don't come back. (It's all detailed in the book, "The Cat God Loves".)

I simply couldn't bear the thought of her being cut (again -- I hated to spay her, and opted for laparoscopic surgery so the trauma was less then too. Even at that, I could tell she had a lot of pain for awhile.) I describe Prissy's reaction to pain medication in the book too -- NOT GREAT -- poor, stoned kitty -- scary.

I was told my choice of no surgery was risky because there is no immediate confirmation that the stones are dissolved, whereas with surgery you know they're gone, no matter the type of stone. She might have had to have surgery anyway, though, if the diet didn't work. (But believe me, I questioned until I understood clearly.) (Thank heavens the diet did work! )

The risk is this too -- there's the possibility of calcium oxalate stones, not struvite stones, or a combination of both, and calcium oxalate will not dissolve with diet.

But we got lucky -- there were three stones, all struvite.

It was a gamble I was willing to take, knowing surgery could still be performed if necessary. There's no way to be certain which of the two types the stones are, even with all the tests, but one thing is for sure, with the infection cleared up, the comfort level is much better, and surgery couldn't happen until then anyway (so was it really a gamble? Some might say so because the cost would more than double, of course.) I just thank God I was able to afford it, continue to afford the food, and her vets are so amazing -- they didn't even charge for the last x-ray, which was no small cost.

All in all, she's doing well, and that's all that matters to me. I have now found the same urinary food available in low calorie also, so I'm working to get some weight off her -- nothing to do with stones, but obesity is so hard on organs and bones.

Anyway, I didn't mean to chew your ear off -- LOL. I can't compare my state of being to Prissy like you do with your 'happy' dog -- she seems to adjust her mood to mine, a LOT. And it's too often not the 'happiest'. But when it is, she's a great comfort. Her purr, her patience with my mauling (cuddles)... LOL.

Thanks very much, my friend. It's so good to 'see' you!

I saw the news report that Grumpy passed away. So sad for her owners. No wonder she was grumpy if she was in pain with stones.

I think our pets see us as beautiful even when we're not--just as we see them as beautiful. A nice piece on our relationship with the animals we love and live with. Marilyn

Funny thing, I heard about Grumpy cat from all three of my sons this week.....which means it was all over social media...;) And, even though I know you didn't mean for it to be, this would have been a great entry for the Dialogue Only contest! :) And tell Miss Priss that all of us fashionable gals do the 'get comfortable ' thing just as soon as we get home! :) Thank you both for the wonderful entertainment this afternoon -- well done and smile-worthy! ;) Yvette ;)

A very well-written prizzy'z corner. The camera seems to catch us always off guard when we look at our worst and when the button is clicked it is on record forever.

You did a great job with this post, Dawn & Prissy. I like the message presented--it's what is on the inside that counts. Great banter, you tow. I am thrilled Prissy is doing better. I did read about Grumpy--sad, but those infections are horrible--been there several times with the same result. Thanks for sharing. Take care. Jan

Oh Jan, I'm so sorry. I know you are a 'cat mommy' too. Yep, it scared me terribly when Priss's infection struck -- I'm so careful now, I watch her every time she goes to her litter box. I make sure to change her water a lot too, just so she'll drink plenty.
Thank you so much, my friend. I hope your kitties are all in great health!

Another great read.

I like the expression pleasantly plump.

This sentence is priceless:"I'm kind. I don't glow. Unless I roll around on the carpet. Sometimes then my fur sticks up from static electricity."

The end is very moving.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, Maria. (I crack myself up with some of the things 'my cat' writes. LOL)

This is an amusing piece, full of attitude. I liked it :)

Here are a couple of things you may like to consider:

"Is this one on Facebook too?" - Who does this snippet of dialogue belong to? It appears to break the to and fro sequence.

I thought you were just making that up because they were mean at the vet clinic. - Ha, ha :) My cat usually hisses at me when we get back from the vet. The vet gives him the towel treatment to prevent him scratching, and I get to provide the vent for the resultant frustration.

Ha! Maybe one speech tag wouldn't hurt, but then, Prissy says, "Errr," just before it -- when 'Mom' is challenging her about reading everything Mom writes...

Thanks so much. I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)) (I often grin or laugh outright through most of what 'my cat' writes.)

Yep, Prissy gets the towel treatment too, and the last few visits during her treatment for bladder stones, I'm sure they had to haul out the big guns (those work gloves that go from fingertip to elbow - LOL).

My dear Dawn. This write is so "left of center" and I love it. Who else but you would dare to go there? I do remember Grumpy Cat. The dialogue is "wry" and thought provoking. "Yes. I think so. And you're pretty anyway, Mom. Even in your ugly pictures." Great line - DJ

LOL. With the shit-kicking we get in life, I think I'd go crazy if I couldn't write -- laugh at myself some. I'm glad you enjoyed this one, David. XX Thank you!
